Foreign tourists will have to quarantine for the first three days in August's "Pattaya Move On" plan

Thailand's business media Bangkok Business News were the latest organisation to focus on Pattaya's plans to reopen to foreign tourism.

 

The buzzword of the day in the eastern seaboard town is "Pattaya Move On" - slated to begin on August 1st in line with the Phuket Sandbox model due to start in two weeks. 

 

They quoted the head of the Chonburi Tourism Business association Thanet Supharothatrangsi and repeated his assertion - as reported by Thaivisa earlier - that unless Pattaya gets 900,000 vaccine doses for people in Bang Lamung and Sattahip tourism will be off the cards for foreigners until 2022's fourth quarter.

 

They did stress that as part of the resort's "sealed route" plan for the two seaside districts foreigners would need to be quarantined for the first three days after an initial test.

 

Of course, only those who had had two vaccine doses would be allowed into the country at all. 

 

They filled out their report with old statistics for tourist revenue in Pattaya, the devastating impact of the pandemic on revenues and the fact that only  a little over 100 out of over 1000 hotels were even open.

Folk will not fly 000's of kms to be treated like a battery hen .. they really are not absorbing this one are they .. factor in onerous conditions imposed on visitors on return to their home countries and it's not gonna happen .. the only thing achieved by continuing with these daft ideas is to underline how detached from reality they really are ..

I do like this plan , but its nothing more then a scratch plan on a piece of paper , without any insights further . 3 days of quarantine , i can stand that for sure , take a away a few other regulations , and let me out of the town after 7 days and im in .

They prob seeing whats going on in Europe right now , most countries have fast dropping numbers of infections , and vaccinations are going pretty good ( some better then others ) , and people are ready to travel and making plans for this summer . Thailand wants it also , but don't know how they can do it , and for sure , with current vaccination numbers , its going to be a very difficult story . They have got to make some kind of regulation like , vaccinated or not , previous infection or not , tested ? . and get all those rules in a guidemap . Its crazy to want people who are fully vaccinated 14d in quarantine or semi quarantine , and to ask just the same for every visitor vaccinated or not . Im not saying that the others aren't possible to enter but the rules shouldn't be the same  , in order to get the fastest the safest group of people back as tourists .

Add to this the fact that there is no entertainment or social scene and the need to either eat at the hotel if you can find one open or the local 7-11 and you have the makings for a huge flop

The numbers in time will tell, though I am pretty sure you can chalk this one up as a fail.

All the time non vaccinated people from more local areas with significant outbreaks can come and go as they please, where is the sense in insisting on such measures for vaccinated tourists?

Even a 3 days quarantine is too much.
There are still people from BKK coming to pattaya, and you have 1000x more chance to catch the covid with that population rather than vaccinated + tested tourists.

Also do are they going to take away 900,000 dosages away from the rest of Thailand, where there is a shortage right now. How inconsiderate of them, especially since they still have over 2,300 new cases everyday.

Phuket Sandbox - Opening up the island for 7 days....  turned into 14 days, 3 Covid tests, can’t leave the area.

 

This is nothing more than the Chonburi Tourism board making announcements and attempting to influence the CCSA....

 

.... it is nothing more than hot air.

 

 

That said - Thailand could easily go to a 3 day ASQ nationwide on a two tiered entry system:

 

1) Vaccinated individual: Pre-Flight Covid-19 RT PCR test. 2-3 day ASQ, PCR test on arrival at ASQ. 

2) Unvaccinated individual: Pre-Flight Covid-19 RT PCR test. 10 day ASQ (2 PCR tests in quarantine).

First of all, they are not geniuses as you suggest - just gov't servants trying their best. And the "two vaccines" was just a casual way of saying "fully vaccinated" - of course J&J "vaccinees" are fully vaccinated after just one jab. As for the comments about the 3 days quarantine being imposed to boost occupancies in quarantine-approved hotels, well maybe. But that would mean that the quarantine hotels have more influence on these policy makers than the normal resort hotels - doubtful. Because the arriving tourists would have to stay a hotel somewhere whether a Q-hotel or a normal hotel. And 3 days is not much : indonesia iis 5 days, Aussie is 14 and SG is 21 !

Why do you need to eat at the hotel or 7-11? There are plenty of restaurants that are still open.

hmm, can't see how this will work at all !! How will quarantining for only 3 days protect the double vaccinated from the infected Thais? They should be quarantined for their entire stay and then do 14 days quarantine upon returning to their own country. We certainly do not want any more variants in the UK, thank you very much ????

You wonder where they get the idea they will need 900,000 shots? Ok, 450,000 twice, but based on what? Their records are all up the creek, most rely on a 2010 census, most of Pattaya's Thai population is migrant, especially from Issan, and registered in their home towns, and nobody has much of a clue as to how many retiree expats, work permit holders, illegal workers etc etc there are. A shot in the dark if you ask me (geddit???).

Indeed, I was thinking if they give me the J&J jab in Europe I'll have to shop for a 2nd shot of another vaccine in order to come back to Thailand.

I have the same question but more related to foreigners that live in Thailand. What if any requirements will there be for us? Obviously we are in the same vaccine situation as Thais not being vaccinated.

Good idea...  Vaccinated foreigners with very effective vaccines in quarantine and Thai people with bad working vaccines are free to go and do anything.. If there would be new infections we know who to blame.. It are always they never us......

If I’m not mistaken:

 

Officially: Only fully Vaccinated foreigners and Thai’s will be able to enter Phuket once the sandbox opens. 

 

Unofficially: Once things open, bus loads of unvaccinated Thai ‘workers’ will be crossing the bridge, money will go into someone’s pocket.

I suspect that we will be treated exactly the same as Thais because the techniques to ensure you go to hotels for quarantine can only be undertaken and checked for at incoming airports I would think. Imagine having the RTP/Military manning road blocks at every single entry point into Pattaya. Impossible. And those of us with Thai families living here, well that would go down well if they started hauling Thai's husbands , wives and children out of cars wouldn't it.  Anyway don't fret it is just another pathetic idea to generate cash for certain peoples pals so will not happen IMHO.
