(Reuters) - Thailand's food and drug administration on Thursday announced it had approved the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine for emergency use.

The approval makes it the sixth COVID-19 vaccine approved in Thailand, senior health official Paisan Dankhum said in a statement. Thailand has ordered 20 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine and expects to receive it by the end of the year.

It is my understanding that the Pfizer vaccine is targeted for Thai children.  Perhaps this is due to it being approved for youth but perhaps us high risk older folk could use it too.  Can someone explain why the Pfizer will be given to the low risk group.  I am happy for the kids but jealous for sure.

Not enough and not soon enough. Read this and compare.  UK is going to use this jab a 3rd booster shot this autumn (northern hemisphere). 60 million more doses. If 3 shots are needed it will be the end of next year at this rate for Thailand. These grandiose statements bear no weight with me as time and again they are proved to be just grandstanding nonsence.

I see it says 20 million doses here. In another thread it mentions 30 million.

I guess it’s not much difference?

Grandiose statements they are and pie in the sky numbers they may be.  All a little late agreed but finally, yes finally Pfizer is approved and added to the list and that has to be good news?

Great news.  Better late than never.   Expect they'll rubber stamp the approval for 12-16 year olds too.

Is Thailand the last country on Earth that has approved the Pfizer vaccine? I don't know, but it sure feels like that!

From 20 odd years working in a purchasing environment, I can guarantee you one thing, what date you put as a request date varies significantly from the vendors promised and delivery date !

The Phillippines get the vaccines in August, delivery in eight weeks, why is Thailand delaying again??

Based on all the previous reports, announcements and promises, I have to ask one simple question: What year?

Well about time to,  why did it take Thailand so long to aprove this Pfizer vacine for use in Thailand,  Oh, I forgot lives are cheap here, and I'm OK Jack, that's the attitude of the Government,  and let's wait and see if this so called 20 million vaccine arrive,...... I doubt it very much....

1.  so it was approved...probably won't be made available until 2025.

2.  They can't even keep a bottle of Singha cold...how are they gonna keep this in the required sub zero temps during storage?

I think the booster is more of a precaution and nothing to do with the effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine itself as there is not enough long term data available to date for any of the vaccines?  The fact that they have chosen Pfizer is most probably either that it is the one that they can most easily obtain in the quantities that they require or they are following their earlier studies that showed that a combination of both the Pfizer and AZ vaccine offered even better protection? This tying in with the fact that in the UK, most high risk adults were given the AZ vaccine as it was easier to manage it in doctor’s surgeries etc.

I would pay decent money to get a Pfizer twice at approved time intervals.

The Phillppines is getting them now through COVAX.  Over 2 million so far. The 40 million order they are paying for themselves starts in August.

So far as I am aware no vaccine has been approved for use with Children. The Pfizer vaccine is being  used in Europe and USA for adults since vaccination begun some months ago

Expects to receive it by the end of the year. Another lie just like the Moderna lie. Thailand is at the back of the order line on any of these vaccines. Many countries are ahead of them. 2022 is more likely

I seriously doubt that they have even made a deposit let alone paid for the entire order. This is more eye wash for the public.  Many people have told me that they will not take the vaccine made in Thailand or China and want to wait for the US shipment.

First to apply last to be approved yet the Chinese vaccine no data goes through with flying colors.????
