Of course he was misinterpreted.

Id like to know how he was misinterpreted ... sort of unequivocal statement in reality .. so he either is completely wrong .... condom vending machine operators rejoice or he is completely correct in which case its another 45 calibre to the tourism foot.. honestly its like someone saying a girl is 50% pregnant.. either is or isn't .....

This could affect many people who have married in villages according to Buddhist traditions but whose marriages are not legally registered

Since when does one have to be married to be with a person?

I think it's getting worse than some integralist countries

Doubles the price of the holiday if you have to book two rooms. One each for you and your partner.

If this turns out to be true, then what's the point of coming to Thailand? For Europeans, might as well head to the beaches of Spain, Portugal, Greece or one of the other mediterranean countries that are open. Shorter flight, cheaper, and less restrictions.  Weather is likely to be better than Phuket in July and August as well.

And, if you are looking for tropical beaches you have Madeira and Canarias, just 3 hours flight from home. No quarantine, no PCR, nothing but jumping into the airplane.

Prices for sex is the same in Spain: 30 euros/ 1000 bahts for ST.

How many bars do you think will be open?People who come for that will be very

disappointed, there may be a few local ladies hanging around the hotels but most

will still be in the village.

Well, the jails have lots of bars and they're always open for new faces, old ones too.

Seriously, I doubt many bars will be open and I doubt many ladies will want to run a train load of guys through her apartment/single room shared with other girls, mama and papa's house, etc.

According to the article that's not a denial...it's wait and see....again.

I'm wondering if I returned to Thailand via Phuket whether my Thai wife ( legally married) who is in Thailand can join me there. She is not vaccinated of course. It's not available where she is and anyway she and her family are highly suspicious of it.

Thailand... Do you want Tourists to come to Thailand... Or NOT??

Why not just go to the nearest Police Station and "SHOOT" Your right foot.

Really trying to kill it here for all the singles (male or female) who might have planned a visit.

Stupid is as Stupid does! Love to get these lawmakers in a Poker Game!!

An in another topic running on Phuket:  A command Center will be set up for this reason as well as others

"The centre will be used, along with the “Mor Prom” and “Mor Chana” apps, to track the movements of foreign tourists on Phuket, in an effort to control the spread of COVID-19. Tourists will be required to install one of the apps upon arrival. If an infection is found, the information will be sent to health investigators so tourists can seek treatment."

Lets see Tourists arrive and are given a PCR test, and then 3 more times they are given PCR tests, yet they have all bee verified as being vaccinated, whereas the good Thai people of Phuket still have not been vaccinated fully.  I think I see these people of being scared of more than just their shadows, demons and ghosts....

Misinterpreted. Such a get out.

I guess we'll have to wait to see what the Royal Gazette has to say, probably 1 day before Phuket officially opens.

What does 'legally married ' mean anyway. Having 4 wives? Big wife, little wife? Village weddings are not recognised? Foreign marriages have to be accepted by Thai law?

I love all this. Foot in mouth syndrome and law of unintended consequences.

So the Thai maid would not be allowed in? 555

So let's see, so far you will be tracked and you can't have a visitor in your room. And you can't have porn on your TV. Sounds like Catholic school. 555  I'm all for it, I think.

No you wouldn't want to play them in a poker game as part way through each game they would change the deck or invent new rules of the game or slightly modify existing rules  .....

it was all those qualities you so eloquently describe that got him the job in tourism in the first place .....

And if true, that would be a rather sad and pathetic reflection of contemporary Thai society, and those who are attempting to lead it into the future. Wait a minute. What future?

July's upcoming Phuket trip reports:

Many Covid tests,

Must use a tracking app,

Bars were closed,

80% of restaurants and businesses were closed,

Must sleep with the wife,

...however the Taxi ride from the airport was wonderful this time!

Taxi ride from the airport wonderful ?  Very unlikely IMHO -the taxi mafia sadly still reigns.

But you could add:

- Beaches empty and absolutely wonderful (not to fight the maddening crowds)

- Tourist spots (such as Big Buddha and such) devoid of tourists and superb

- Road traffic was very quiet compared to the past

- Local Thai had a very good attitude toward the few tourists

- The restaurants that were open had superb deals/prices - and with some local knowledge fabulous restaurants could still be found at very affordable pricing.

- Memories of 25 years ago are back

You do have a choice..... you do not have to come or stay if you are here.

Your statement that you actually hope that Thailand fails...what a selfish and sad thing to say. I have been coming here for near on 40 years and lived here going on 14 years and In that time.....overall I have been treated pretty well by all. Maybe in your case if you have had problems it could be about your attitude towards the place.

I have found that if you treat people like you want to be treated you usually do not have a problem when visiting other countries and could lead to meeting some fantastic locals and even making friends for life in the countries you visit.

Try it sometime.... you may be surprised.

Yes, everyone has a choice to come and/or stay and my attitude is the right one for this situation. No country is in a position to dictate to any foreign national when it can't manage it's own public health problems let alone clean up it's own backyard. Fully vaccinated Westerners coming to this country will be vaccinated with vaccines that have a efficacy rate of about 90% or above and must submit to and pay for 3 Covid-19 test. The locals are being vaccinated with vaccines far less in quality when it comes to the efficacy rate yet no further testing is required.

Also, making comments about how I treat or don't treat people does nothing but show your ignorance and lack of reading comprehension skills. My entire original comment is based on the fact that all of us deserve to be treated equally and with dignity and respect.

They still give me and the wife dirty looks now.........Germans are not big fans of mixed race marriages.

That what he was addressing had nothing to do with mixed marriages,

happened to me also still in the  70‘s that a hotel rejected me a room with my girlfriend (despite the the law being reformed in  1969).

The reason for that was the old „Kuppelparagraph“ aka. hooking up paragraph from 1871. So to say Victorian rules 555

Coupling was meant to convey opportunities for so-called „fornication“.

Renting a hotel room to unmarried couples was therefore problematic.
