Pattaya: 121 foreigners and Thais arrested drinking alcohol at restaurants and beach gatherings

someone else mentioned how it's against the law, but it's been very relaxed enforcing it in BK.

Yeah, but that's how a gov inches up on your freedoms.  Now it is ILLEGAL, and they can choose to beat up on the citizens more and more.

but they are smart enough to know if they did that right off the bat while everyone is used to freedom that they'd be creating a much bigger active anti-gov population.

I never see reports on what happens to these people after they are arrested. Are they sent to some prison to get Covid?

I would imagine they will all be contributing to some sort of financial fund to the benefit of the police Lt/Cols and Maj/Gens. etc.

The problem is that there is often no severe punishment and so some people don't care much. Or they are mentally not able to get the message. Chonburi reported today 320 new cases with many in Banglamung.

"Chonburi Public Health Office has just announced they have 320 new cases and two more deaths. Most new cases are in Chonburi City (55), Bang Lamung/Pattaya (113), Sattahip (57), Si Racha (69). The total cases so far is now 7,527 with 2,276 remaining in care #Thailand"

That means about a third of that 320 will remain in care for a bit longer than usual, I wonder how many of that third had health issues like obesity, too much smoking and drinking.

If people looked after themselves , did not smoke, did not drink too much and did not have self inflicted health causes, would the whole world today be operating near normally.

an impossible desire by gov to keep human beings from having the social interaction we need as a species.  Especially in our first 30 years.  Its instinctual and nature driven.

I wish I had a little birdy in office to know the true goals of those in charge.

I know it's not to return to normal.
It's not "safety.'
Like, what is the end goal here?

The USA would still be doing this too if it wasn't for there still being individual states governmental freedoms that middle fingered the central gov and took back their lives and proved the fear mongering story line to be bogus.

Those states btw are seeing huge increases in people moving to them while the draconian left slant states are seeing massive flights of their population.

What's eery is if you watch sports and you see the fear monger states  with empty baseball stadiums and basketball arenas with the few people in it double masked up,

then flip the channel to games being played in the free states with the fully packed stadiums and arenas (no masks being worn too) while having no difference in covid claimed rates.

Food for thought.

This is alledgedly what happens as related by a victim of a police bust last week in Pattaya area.

They are taken to Pattaya Police station on Soi 9 where they are lectured about the Covid problem in Pattaya.  After this they are told that the penalty for this is a night in the cells, followed by a court appearance and a 40,000 fine, with subsequent deportation from Thailand and will be unable to return to the Kingdom for a period of 5 years.

The farangs are then taken to a separate room where they are told this can all 'go away' if they each pay a 10,000 baht fine (no receipt of course).  After this they will be able to leave only after paying into a bank account via there phones, or being escorted to an ATM and handing over the 10,000 baht in cash.

Even if you have been sitting in a bar without a beer in front of you when the bar is busted, you will still be threatened with a night or two in the cells and a court appearance if you refuse to pay.

The strange part is entering the police station, not through the front door, but via a stairway on the side, and then climbing over a balcony wall. Theoretically, of course.

I think it's you that doesn't see the bigger picture which is that the Thais are apparently doing everything they can now to attract tourists. Do you think stamping down hard and splashing it all over all the media would help achieve that goal?

What happens is they get fined 0-20k depending on various circumstances and then let go.

"that the Thais are apparently doing everything they can now to attract tourists". The unelected "PM" sure has left it a bit late now, they lost a lot of expats and tourists even before this virus struck through their own bl--dy mindedness.

Thailand has a wealth of alcoholics in all provinces. Statistics show that 70% of farangs have at least 5 drinks a day with some starting in the morning hours.

Yes I do agree with your first sentence, though I fail to see how anyone can get statistics that say what 70% of farangs drinking habits are.

Give them a lesson about what alcohol does to the body, tell them it's a Grade 1 carcinogen, show them lots of videos and pictures about this, then let them go. If they reoffend, then they are suicidal. Yes, it's an unpopular viewpoint, but I can't understand why people drink alcohol when they must know what a carcinogen is and what alcohol does to you.

Well down my list after cigarettes, junk food and pollution.....

As the old joke would have it: they may or may not live longer, but it will certainly feel like it!

But you are almost certainly right.

Before anyone gets too excited, whilst hardly a lean, mean, steely eyed killing machine, I haven't smoked for over 20 years, exercise regularly (I don't pretend to be an athlete: walk my dogs twice a day, do my stoutness exercises every morning and when working spend most of the day on my feet; a glass or two of beer or home made cider most nights.)

Here is a video from thepattayanews.com

It is as well, for those of us of a gentle disposition that we were spared the worst of the scenes of utter depravity which met those brave champions of morality when they forced an entry!

I wonder what became of the crates of booze which were taken away, meticulously logged and stored as evidence, to be subsequently destroyed under the supervision of a high ranking officer when no longer required? Or perhaps not!

It is good to know that, despite the ravages of the virus, the lack of effective vaccination, the utter economic devastation for the many who worked in "entertainment venues" (the accepted establishment term,is it not?) and all the other pressures on our police force they can still find the resources to protect us from such  machiavellian activities - and at night too!

Still, at B10,000 cash per punter, and whatever "favours" were extracted from the girls, no doubt a satisfactorily profitable evenings work, given that times are hard.

Testing for Covid would be pointless as they weren't arrested for potentially being carriers, they were arrested for breaking Covid-related regulations on gatherings and alcohol consumption.

Are they all awaiting in the same police cells? the very same cells that have 1 half open window, 1 half broken fan and everyone gasping for the same air and oxygen? or did they wrap plastic bags around everyones head? Personally, i do not see how wearing a mask in those cells is possible as its very hard to breath as is, in addition, everyone is sleeping pretty much on top of each other.

I am guessing fines of 2000-5000 baht will be given out collectedly, who ever has cash on them, will be released after fine is paid and those without any cash, back in the holding cells.

Some slappers there

One is a local Thai place, catering for locals of lets say certain class, the other place is an arab place, catering to Arabs and whales who are into Arabs????

I am almost certain both places were snitched on by neighbors, the local one is located amongst a few similar places, so no doubt biz next door made the call and other one is located in that dead arab soi, which is dead empty with no lights, again with a few similar biz up  that soi.
