Siam Chon News reported this morning that at 12.30 am today the Chonburi provincial police and local officers raided two establishments in south Pattaya arresting Thais and foreigners and also arrested 20 people drinking alcohol on the beach. 

 

In one raid people tried to climb out of the third floor of a building to flee. Some got away. 

 

The media said the big gatherings represented a fear of a cluster of Covid-19 infections developing from people not obeying the rules on alcohol and gathering. 

 

The first raid was at The Garden 168 on South Pattaya Road where 28 people and a manager were arrested after being found drinking alcohol. It was a bar with a restaurant covering the illegal activity.

Raid #2 was bigger. This was at the four story Mo Salah on Walking Street where there are lots of separate rooms.

 

Alcohol was being consumed at ten tables on the third floor. Patrons - both Thais and foreigners - tried to flee to various rooms and some even climbed down the building.

 

Some tried to disguise themselves with leaves, said the media without explaining fully. 

 

Only a proportion of those that fled were detained. At Mo Salah 72 arrests were made. Thirty shisha pipes were found in a room.

Again, eating as part of a restaurant hid the illegal activity. 

 

Then at the beach 20 people were arrested for gathering and drinking alcohol. 

 

In total 121 people were taken to Pattaya police station.

Yeah.. way to go to get good publicity for Thailand's "sandboxes"...put this on an international news news and see how many so called tourists will rush to book flights to Thailand...

Must have been some of those SAS troopers who hang around in Pattaya.

What I worry about is having someone (1 or 2 people) over at my place, and the police coming crashing through the door due to drinking alcohol or some such.

I never see reports on what happens to these people after they are arrested. Are they sent to some prison to get Covid?

What's that you say,  the tourism situation can't get any worse?

I wonder if they were taking business from those establishments owned by senior policemen which somehow (it is rumoured, don't believe it myself because that would be corrupt) are still in business...

I wonder if actual Covid safety was on police minds? Did they test anyone for Covid ? Would it not be the first thing to do ? To decide to isolate them or to bring them to police station and police cells where they can infect others

Pattaya sandbox

How many Thais and how many foreigners.. no mention about that .. probably more Thais than foreigners. Besides Pattaya want to open for tourists.. this is good for tourism in the sandbox. more jabs and more arrests. How can we kill tourism

Any gathering around alcohol is not allowed so technically, if someone reports you and the police decide to act on it, they can do just that.

They pay a 'fine' wrapped in brown paper & are quietly released without charge.

there are still quite a few younger farangs roaming around Pattaya on extended stays, time they went home and got back to work - the holiday is over folks and so is furlough

Time you minded your own business and not make assumptions based on someone's age. 

The problem is that there is often no severe punishment and so some people don't care much. Or they are mentally not able to get the message. Chonburi reported today 320 new cases with many in Banglamung. 

 

"Chonburi Public Health Office has just announced they have 320 new cases and two more deaths. Most new cases are in Chonburi City (55), Bang Lamung/Pattaya (113), Sattahip (57), Si Racha (69). The total cases so far is now 7,527 with 2,276 remaining in care #Thailand"

Majority in Banglamung (85 at least) are from construction camps which are now sealed off. Do you want severe punishment for them or think they don't care because they are doing their best to earn a meager living?
