The first case of a Beta (South African) variant COVID-19 infection and four more COVID-19 clusters, with over 500 infections, have been found in Bangkok, according to the government.

One person from Bangkok, who was visited by an infected family member travelling from Thailand’s southern province of Narathiwat, has been found to be infected with the Beta variant, previous only seen in the southern region bordering Malaysia, according to the Department of Medical Sciences today (Monday).

Two other family members of the person were also found to be infected, with results of variant pending. Seven colleagues of the person have tested negative for the virus.

Delta variant to become dominant strain in the capital “within two to three months”

By Erich Parpart

The number of people infected with the Delta and Beta variants of Covid-19, which was first identified in India and South Africa, have increased with the latter exceeding 120 cases, the Department of Medical Science (DMSC) said on Monday.

“About one-third of the Delta cases were found in Bangkok and if these rates hold, the Delta variant will become the dominant variant in the capital, replacing the Alpha variant (first identified in the United Kingdom) within the next two to three months,” said Dr Supakit Sirilak, the DMSC’s Director-General.

The DMSC said last week that of the 6,343 samples that were collected from around the country between April 7 and June 21, 5,641 cases or 88.93 per cent were identified as the Alpha variant, 664 cases or 10.47 per cent were the Delta variant, and the remaining 38 cases or 0.60 per cent were the Beta variant.

I'd actually be very surprised if the Delta variant is not either near the top variant already - as these figures are partially based on going back two months and Delta is 10%. If it's not, then it will be top long before one or two months is up.

Sad thing is that Delta will kill off any chance of Sandboxes in October in my opinion, simply as you cannot open the economy with rampant Delta and a 3% 1st jab Chinese vaccine.

Prayut will, of that have no doubt.

Watch the numbers rocket in July... little testing, virtually no lockdowns [unless your in a work camp] people starting to migrate away from Bangkok.

Spreading the love.

Samut Sakhon Thailands bread basket in serious trouble again.

The real bottom line, is that Thailand now has Infections that are out of control.

The MOPH and Government are led by people with little, or no idea, on how to react to this situation, and are grabbing at straws, with the main priority being to get Tourists back into the Country at all costs.

Due to the severe lack of Governance back last year when Vaccines should have been procured, and correct contingency plans drawn up, and the now blindly stupid actions being taken with the Tourist entries Etc, the Country now finds itself without Vaccines, and heading toward a Fiscal meltdown due to irresponsible spending on major Budget items with little or no use.

Oh Thailand ! What have you done to yourself.

So all the trumpeting of how effective the Chinese junk vaccine is against the Alpha variant is actually a waste of time. The future is Delta, Beta, Delta+ and Kappa and Thailand is woefully unprepared for these.

Statement above is a correct analysis. By example the recent Delta outbreak in Sydney Australia was sourced from one individual ferrying air crew. Its rate of growth is dramatic and prompted the severe lockdown now in place. We here are being too complacent for which we will pay a high price.

Its is a little faster than the previous Variations.  None the less iys obviousthat it will spread and come full cirlcle same as the others.  I said two weeks ago that this will happen,  but I think it will happen faster than the predictions now as its a more serious variation and spreads faster.  I say by the end of July as the sandbox will perpetuate it much faster than when it was attempted to keep the virus out.

The message from the Thai government should have been this.  Until you have had your 2 COVID vaccine shots plus 2 weeks after

the last shot. Stay at home!  Do not be travelling all over the country.  The way things are going, Thailand and a lot of other countries

will not see the end of this pandemic for another 2 to 5 years.  It only takes a few virus spreaders to keep this pandemic alive.

Geezer
