Thais are deeply worried about the government’s plan to reopen the country and resume normal business operations by October, as daily infections and deaths rise again amid a bumpy vaccine rollout.

Recent opinion polls suggest most Thais disagree with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s vow to lift all travel restrictions in 120 days, fearing this will fuel new COVID-19 outbreaks.

On Saturday (June 26), the government announced a partial lockdown in Bangkok and nine other provinces from June 28.

If they really want to open for tourists they should be informing the public that all tourists have been tested and vaccinated.

it’s not tourists that are spreading the CHINESE virus

I'm just watching BBC World news. Thailand are Running Amazing Thailand ads on the BBC with the caption 'Thailand now open' with drone shots of Phuket towns and beaches. . .

The only people watching BBC World will be expatriates, so this is the tiny niche they're targeting. They'll get a trickle of expatriate families that have the means to escape. All the TAT need to do is film a couple of families coming through the gates at HKT and they can say it was all worth it, even though it wasn't.

Even the COVID virus isn't spread by them.

If it's that delicate they should probably outsource it to an international consultancy, I'd never thought I'd say this but heck even Accenture or G4S could do a better job than the Thai government. Meanwhile many European countries - granted not all -  move ahead with reviving their tourism industry - e.g. Spain - I think we can drop even the vaccination now for UK and US travellers (and other countries in 4 weeks) - Thailand - I think we should probably make the requirements 4 pages so we duplex print and not have any whitespace.

And the PM just shut down 10 provinces for 30 days..

UK tried to do that in phase one of the pandemic, with disasterous consequences

They're failing miserably at their 'balancing act'--starting with procuring vaccines.  When are they going to realize that that's the be all and the end all.

The 'delicate balancing act' looks like a car crash from my viewpoint......????

Luckily, we do not live in America where the Texas Lieutenant Governor once said:

Old People Should Volunteer to Die to Save the Economy

According to Dan Patrick “lots of grandparents” are willing to sacrifice themselves for the cause.

Yee haw!
