Hi there. We are relocating from Thailand to Malaysia this year but due to covid the time frame of leaving current employment and getting new work permit for Malaysia might not line up. Is it possible to change to a tourist visa without leaving the country? Or to an education / guardian visa so our kids could stay in school in Thailand? Trying to think of options as returning to home country (NZ) is near impossible right now! Thanks.

You cannot apply for a tourist visa while in the country.

What type of extension of stay are you on now? In most cases you can change the reason for your extension to another one.

What type of extension is your family members on now?

If your children are attending school they can get a extension based upon that. Then if you have more than one child you and your wife could apply for extensions for being their parents of each child.  Only one parent can apply for each child.

You both would need 500k baht in a Thai bank to apply for the extensions for being their parent. For the first extension the money only need to be in the bank for 30 day and then 90 days.

Thanks for your reply. I’m enquiring on behalf of my husband who has the work permit in Thailand. My husband is on a Non B visa extension, and the kids and I are on a Non O. They are both in school so that could be a great option.
