Death by nature

Featured Replies

In 1931, 3.7 million people died from natural disasters. In 2018, just 11,000 did.  And that decline occurred over a period when the global population quadrupled.

No shortage of food worldwide. Lots of waste. Maybe those parents should have used condoms if they cant feed their kids.

Not sure why you have linked this to a climate change article. A look at Google indicates the 3.7 million you refer to related to one disaster being the flooding of the Yangtze in China. Google tells me it was caused by unusual heavy rains, deforestation, and other factors.

The simple answer is that since 1931 scientists and others have learnt how to deal with natural disasters more effectively be it earthquake proof buildings or better management of river systems to deal with such disasters.

Simple facts. The world is safer now and greener.

Scare campaigns are based on politics not science.

Even scientists who did work for the IPCC have admitted that.

The UN Climate Panel found in its latest report that hurricanes (aka tropical cyclones) haven't increased: “Current datasets indicate no significant observed trends in global tropical cyclone frequency over the past century.”

So no increase in hurricanes. Less deaths from nature.

Yet the media gives air time to climate preachers selling snake oil.

We must act (to make them rich)....

3.1 million kids die every year from hunger - world is hardly greener and safer for them or the 30-40 million who die from it every year.

Personally I'd say starvation is natural disaster - but then I 'd also say it's down to non population control too

   That isnt true .

If it is, name the Countries where 3.1 million kids died last year .

I was shocked to read what you posted. Your are a very ignorant and nasty person if your really think that.

You could have been born into poverty ans starving now. You were just Lucky to be born into family and country where food was easily available.

I suggest you go and help out starving children living in poverty and see if you feel the same and can be cold hearted to them.

OP seems to have a desire to post outlandish claim and then make arguments.

On the contrary, deaths from  natural catastrophe show peaks and valleys over time, One year can see 250,000 and the next only 25,000.  It is ridiculous to look at only on year at a time.

Natural disaster have typically been related to water whether inadequate or too much and earth movement.

Earth movement gives us horrible earthquake tragedies as we have seen in Haiti, or tsunami  in Japan.

Water problems give us droughts which cause famines, or wildfires which destroy and leave long term damage.  Lives lost is one small piece of crisis. More important is damage to economy. The wildfires due to heat bubbles in North America are leaving billions of $$ in damage, yes? The droughts in North America and EU chronic water shortage have caused cost of food to increase and shortages of fresh vegetables. The wildfires in Australia many not have killed big amounts to OP's satisfaction, but that is due to evacuation measures. They Australian catastrophe destroyed lives and  livelihoods for many. The economic damage was huge.

Sad that some people want to dismiss the misery and pain of others.

No just pointing out the downward trend. Clear trend down.

Totally agree with you. Only one nation on the planet has benefitted from this pandemic - in both economy by destroying all other economies on the planet and by vaccine sales to countries that cannot open until the pandemic has ended with Chinese vaccine sales. Only one country is making military gains and threats during the pandemic.

Personally I think it was deliberate - my opinion. If it had say first started in Switzerland and China had ridden to the rescue I would see it differently. As it is it is just too convenient in my mind

Not really according to investigative scientists.

A lot of countries mess with nature in laboratories.

Post your proof. You made the claim back it up with evidence.

I don't have to prove anything to the like of you.

Look it up yourself, there's a very clever American Prof Richard Muller who explains the scenario in an excellent way.

Your speculating like ignorant people do, someone like a USA investigating Prof and many others is saying it did not come from the market it came from the laboratory to the market and all evidence gathered leads them to that conclusion it was an accident in the laboratory.

If you believe it was deliberate up to you.

Now flig off. ????
