BANGKOK (NNT) - The parliament has asked that all in-person committee meetings be suspended for two weeks as part of COVID-19 prevention measures, with one exception. The Budget Committee will continue to host its meetings while using Zoom calls to conduct relevant interviews.

House Speaker Chuan Leekpai directed all parliamentary committees to suspend their meetings while the spread of COVID-19 remained a threat. The Budget Committee however, is bound to complete its government budget proposals review within 105 days.

Budget Committee spokesman Ruangkrai Leekitwattana said today the committee would hold interviews with external persons via Zoom calls, instead of summoning them in person, in order to limit the number of people present in the Parliament Complex, as part of the transmission prevention measures.

Mr Ruangkrai said the committee has already completed the fiscal year 2022 budget proposal for 12 ministries and 9 funds, or about 45.7% of the entire budget, and is currently working on the budget proposed for the Ministry of Public Health.

He said the committee has made inquiries on COVID-19 prevention measures and situation management, particularly on the management of vaccines and test kits which are crucial in the current situation.

As for other committees, House Speaker Chuan Leekpai said they can still hold their meetings during the 14-day period without any penalties, as his request for the suspension of meetings is not a downright prohibition.
