More intense COVID-19 measures may be imposed in Thailand the next two weeks, with a complete lockdown of cities a possibility in the next two months, if the rate of infections and deaths does not abate by then, said Director-General of the Department of Disease Control (DDC) Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong yesterday (Sunday).

 

“If the new infection rate is still high in the next two months, there is a possibility that we might have to impose a lockdown, like in Wuhan, China, to control the spread of the virus, where people have to stay at home and are not allowed to travel, to a point where food and water will be delivered to homes,” Dr. Opart said, adding that the measures will gradually intensify until the situation is under control.

 

Telling the media that he is concerned about the current rapid spread of COVID-19, Director of the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA)’s operation centre and National Security Council Chief Gen Nattaphon Narkphanit yesterday said the current and upcoming measures are necessary to bring the situation under control but the authorities are doing their best not to affect people’s livelihoods.

And then complete re-opening to domestic and international tourism 60 days after that.

Would we be in this situation if the "authorities" had ordered adequate supplies of various vaccinations months ago instead of reporting on an almost daily basis about all the orders they were discussing, ordering, are going to order, are going to sign off on, ad infinitum?! 

Alternatively, they could just stop faffing around and vaccinate everybody.

So Thailand let a head securty guard play PM for 7 years and son of a consturction billionaire who is not a doctor lead us through a once in a lifetime global pandemic. What could go wrong? Add to thatwidespread corruption and general incompetence of an appointed government and here we are. Only a fully vaccinated public can dig us out. what's  the plan?

Impossible... maybe fake news??? The PM said we will reopen the whole country for tourists at 1st October... and now maybe a full lockdown??What will the thousands of tourists who are planning to come to Thailand in October deal with that??? And besides that in 2 months .. how many cases and deaths there will be a day? Maybe better to wait for next year to implant measures to prevent worse

Perfect.  We're set for a two month lockdown.  Bring it on.
Pity the average people who are not.  Because I'm not afraid of the lockdown or the authorities.  I'm afraid of the social powder-keg when this blows.

With what?
They have been blowing smoke up the Thai public's behind for almost a year about all the vaccines that are coming, but sorry, we can't divulge the details as those details can't be divulge because of contracts - but trust us because we tell you daily that millions and millions of doses are on their way!
And then investigative reporters check and there are no contracts, vaccine manufacturers deny contracts, government institutions say that no movement is being made because it's the vaccine manufacturer's fault for not supplying "X" or "Y" or "Z".
But the vaccines are coming - millions and millions are coming!

Of course.  Just vaccinate everybody.  Easy.

And if food delivered to your house is run by the government - I'd stock on tins and dried food immediately 

Nearly lost for words! Very hard to puzzle out what they are thinking.  One can only guess that they are looking at the Indian stats and hope it might have peaked at 60-100k per day in two months and maybe be on the way back down to around the number of new cases we have now. Then they can declare victory and no need to pay out benefits for an offical lockdown.  Not sure what a strict lockdown would do for delta anyway, particularly if so late in the day.

A call to Bojo to organize a travle bubble seems in order. He is probably quite bored in his isolation and might appreciate a call from a general and a good laugh. 

Could all be solved by a load of pricks, in the arm!

This is a sobering possibility, the main reason being that the Myanmar-Thai border is as porous as a sieve and extremely difficult to plug, even with today's electronic surveillance tools. The COVID situation in Thailand's benighted neighbour is incrementally worse than here, with an almost non-functioning health system, and it shows no sign either of being tackled or any hope of improving in the short or medium term. This is very bad news for Thailand. 

Yes, do it. And the streets will be filled with grab drivers who then transmit infected packages into homes. 
 

Covid Regs are like trying to solve a cockroach problem with a garden hose. You may think you are doing some good for a while, but all you are really doing is just <deleted> everything up and the roaches will still be there. 

How about The (Thailand) Pattaya Prison colony......That kind of has a ring to it.......

 

People loss of being able to support themself and their families and children never seem to be given much consideration.....When is enough, enough?

How on earth are the government going to organise the delivery of food and water to all the residents of Bangkok, (let alone other cities)? This government is not known for its organisational abilities, I am just flabbergasted that Dr Opart (-from-the-reality) can make a statement like this. Do you think they've formed a committee yet to determine how they are going to purchase food and water, (from where?) and deliver it?

Vaccine apparently promised by December won't arrive till at least May.

 

The next question any sane person would ask is if nothing changes why would numbers go down?

 

Lockdown might be the final blow to the economy. That to me sounds like panicking the population.

....but not for the sandboxes....afterall, they are paying too much into the hands already to be locked down

This whole thing is going to blow sky high.

 

Why? Because from the highest of the high to the lowest of the low no one has any respect for rule of law and who can blame them?

 

Law is something to be feared and circumvented it is not a shared social contract undertaken as a citizen and participant of a democracy.

If they take the path of this drastic Wuhan model, then Thailand is doomed. I'm not sure it wouldn't have a catastrophic reaction.

Lockdown like Wuhan?    Doors bolted shut Wuhan style.   Food lifted be ropes to balconies?  But nothing will stop the opening October 1! 

 

 

How many bung hole official new outlets does Thailand have.    It does seem like some of these doctors are trying to state the reality of the situation.   But TAT is trying to save their jobs.  At this time TAT should be at 10% staffing but I bet it's same as pre covid plus a few relatives hired. 

Watching this Thailand saga unfold is like watching a crash in SLO mo.    I worry about wife's family. I wonder how the "Thailand has done such a good job with covid" expats are feeling now?
