Thailand’s purchase contract for 20 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has been signed, with delivery expected in the fourth quarter of this year, according to Pfizer and BioNTech today (Tuesday).

Without revealing the prices or exact delivery schedule, both Pfizer and BioNTech said in a press statement that a contract has been signed with Thailand’s Disease Control Department under the Ministry of Public Health.

“We are thrilled to have signed this important agreement with the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand as part of our shared commitment to be part of the country’s efforts to drive down COVID-19 infections,” said Deborah Seifert, Country Manager of Pfizer (Thailand) Ltd. and Indochina.

By now many contracts have been signed to supply all sorts of vaccinations in the 10's of millions, how may of those contract will come to fruition and will actually be delivered and administrated is remain to be seen...

......  Without revealing the prices .....

Of course, otherwise we could see how much remains in the coffers of the military junta.

The 4th quarter starts in October. If they signed a purchase agreement and not just a preeemptive document, than a delivery date should be mentioned. Dear Anutin please share this info with us? I'm making travel decisions based on this info.

Nahh I don't think so , them will probably be first in line for a booster dose since the first vaccine turn out to be just some Chines <deleted> but it did probably fill up these Junta governments bank account allot.

Better late than never.

Remember when they used to do photo ops for deliveries? Now, it's for "contracts."

Oddly, right after shelving the submarine order.

But its good that Pfizer and BioNTech has mostly keep they promises and even they delivered more fast vaccine's to EU than what say in contract.

Is this any different from the thousands of people who paid in full and in advance for Moderna vaccines, but were then to find out that they might not even get one at all!?

"Only booster shots for MP's, government employees and Hi-So's.  Sinovac is a failure and they know it.  Plebs and farang miss out again.  Bottom of the chain, below Soi dogs."

Sinovac is NOT a complete failure. It is, along with Sinopharm, poor compared to the better vaccines. But still better than nothing.

I saw an interview on Al Jazeera about the Thailand Vaccine rollout and why it has been slow .  A professor from a well known university was interviewed and he said the real reason why Moderna and Pfizer are not in LOS yet was these two companies would not pay "Tea" money??? I do not know if this claim is true or not but kind of makes you wonder?

Also if the contract with Pfizer-Biontech contract is signed now(mid July 2021) then the process of production, delivery, payment,  forming a distribution committee, distribution committee planning meetings and then finally deliveries to the vaccination points could mean injections should start in Jan 2022?  This would be the best case scenario.

some math.... 20 million doses Pfizer is enough for 10 million people without a booster..

3,9 million Moderna good for 1,8 million people. August/September/October/November/December = months a 6 million max Astra Zeneca is 30 million dose is for 15 million people. Now about 10 million have got their first jab so there are 5 million more needed to vaccinate them completely. Total

10 mill Pfizer, 1,8 million Moderna, 15 million AZ  makes 26,8 million people can be vaccinated. There 70 million people in Thailand - 5 million vaccinated already = 65 million left-10 million doses already given for 1 time is 55 million people left to be vaccinated- 26,8 million vaccines for the people makes 28,2 million people don't have anything before next year..

And than we hope the vaccine arrive very quickly, because if the vaccines arrive in November or December a lot of people will not be vaccinated this year...I fear for will happen in the meantime

Not bad news is it, but this only jabs 10 million people twice..where are the other 80 million or so vaccines coming from and when?? Thinking at least 50 mil people need to be double jabbed?

  • Popular Post

20 million doses which I assume means 10 million applications of 2 jabs each, or 10 million people vaccinated.  Assuming no does are lost or damaged or degraded during shipment, handling, application, etc.  Currently 50 million Thais are not vaccinated.    As a contract officer, I point out that saying 4th quarter delivery could mean as late as December 31, 2021.  Then quite a while after that before the vaccines could be distributed, and given out.  The Pfizer vaccine requires cold storage and shipping, so I would have my doubts that it will be distributed widely all over Thailand due to transportation and facility storage issues.  Of course it is possible, and countries have handled the cold storage, but I have my doubts about Thailand.

Of course the junta officials wanted Tea Money.  Thai governments have rarely been very altruistic and interested in the greater good.  No dictator wants to give up or pay out money from the country's coffers they have their fingers in

They should of added the 50 mil that the PM talked about ordering  the other day. They could have got a great deal . Unless the PM was lying again about the purchase.

Correct, hence no hope for a better situation before Songkran 2022..

And we don't know what kind of variants are lurking down the road.

Sad!

Late awakening for the sinner, but a step in the right direction.

I hope I can opt for Sinovac because I prefer something more conventional, and I really don't fancy 'vigorous' side effects, but ultimately I just want anything really. I don't think any older farangs will see the Pfizer vaccine. Obviously the more vaccines available then the more chance of us getting something though.  GSK and Valneva also have vaccines nearing completion.  I hope the novel/mRNA vaccines become more tolerable in the future, as they are the best.

No, no, no!  You must be doing some type of new math or something.

The great Prayut said just a day or two ago that he promised ALL Thais would be vaccinated this year.

Interesting that one party calls it a contract, and the other party calls it an agreement.
