TrueMoney wallet: all of a sudden a passport is not good enough?

Recommended Posts

Yup, it's doing that for me too, I'll call tomorrow using my pink ID.

It's certainly annoying, @Ohyesuare thanks for the heads-up, good job it didn't decide not to work when it was needed.

I suspect that Rabbit Line Pay won't be far behind.

And probably Lazada Wallet which has only relatively recently started working for foreigners.

Same here, the app suddenly started to pester me when I was at a 7//11 this morning, about to pay.

I think they should be clear about when it will cease to work. Surely there's a deadline to comply; my problem is that I will need to renew my DL first.

Where did you get the idea that it is easy to get. Did you not read last week's posts. My Amphur insist I must be married.

Not right by all accounts go back to local govt province or the main govt province and be a bit more assertive they can't eat you.

Get yourself one of those gay pink Thai ID cards which apparently is easy enough to get at your local govt provincial office if you want to keep the true thingy.

Depends. I tried, and the uniform spent ages finding ways it wasn't possible while waiting for me to offer an 'incentive'. I walked out. They did the same when I needed a form signed confirming that a photo of me was me. I walked out.

Yes, I can imagine how TrueWallet and the Rabbit thing is used by International Money Laundering operations to launder billions upon billions of money.

In fairness, I've seen the occasional ad for an online casino that mentioned TrueMoney as a payment option, and we all know how much the Thai authorities love to crack down on casinos that aren't owned by generals.

What I don't get is why they increased the limit from 5,000 baht to 30,000 baht a while ago, they could have made that a 2nd tier and added a 2nd layer of verification just for that. Instead of annoying those of us who just want to make small purchases at 7/11.

Lazada Wallet stopped working for me years ago (something to do with being a non-Thai) as did their delivery system.

Yeah difficult to do somethings without a Thai in toe.

You can move quite large sums of money through TrueWallet, up to 200,000 THB. And that's how launderers often work, breaking their assets down into 'bite sized chunks' so that it flies beneath the radar. Lots of accounts moving relatively small amounts at a time.

I use my wife's True Money Wallet. I had one long ago but it died when I could not provide a Thai ID.

You have to do that using their app. I don't need it but it is irritating when then give you coupon on wallet and you cannot do anything with it.

Got a refund in my Lazada wallet yesterday.

Had no problem withdrawing it to my Bangkok Bank account.

The nagging increases, this morning they sent me an SMS. As I currently cannot provide them with any of the IDs they want, I'll just use up my balance - but it would be nice to know how much time there's left!

Compare that with a bank back home who recently asked me to complete an additional KYC questionnaire. They told me the exact deadline right away. How difficult can it be?

My wife was with me, and of course was angry that by walking out I showed disrespect to the uniform that was disrespecting me.
