All 3 countries are/were governed by incompetent, narcissistic right wing "leaders". In the case of Johnson, Sir Patrick Vallance unambiguously attributed at least 20,000 early deaths to Johnson's dithering over lockdown in March 2020. You either pay into a programs and then pay taxes then you are entitled to a meager handout. If you were never lucky enough to have a job outside of living under the table, well then you are left to fend for your own. I know families that are also suffering from severe depression and others who have lost everything they had because of the lack of ability to operate their businesses while they watch the folks who have friends in high places still keep their companies, factories, construction sites open. I hope that the public does wake up from the abuse they have been living under and is able to one day take their beautiful country back. Until then if you are able to assist them like my GF and I are please adopt a few families and buy them the necessities to live a daily life, they are extremely happy to accept it, many are to proud to ask, but the smiles you see when you give them the necessities show it is worth it. Lol the cause of all of that was premature lockdowns, which you seem to be a big supporter of. Nobody is part of the solution until they start encouraging the govt to open the country for the sake of the working people of Thailand. Not a fan of lock downs at all, just believe that to keep the lion at bay one must take care of the populace, which these folks have never done. Moreover Prayut blames his own people for the spread instead of standing tall and accepting responsibility. But hey you don't care you just want the country wide open, will will ensure thousands of more deaths and then families destroyed even further. There is a balance that could be obtained with the lockdowns and that comes with the price of spending money to take care of folks in those areas. Why do you think people flee the places that are being locked down, it is called they are going home to share in whatever the family has available to them. If the Government put forth half of the effort in obtaining welfare packages for all Thais instead of weapons of war and in creating a space program then we may not have that problem. Question for you, have you helped a family in need, even before Covid, or just found a way around everything in life to get what you needed for yourself. Thai people are proud and having to take a handout for them is a true loss of self, unlike in the west where people quit jobs because they can get more in welfare and unemployment, no such social welfare packages here.

The rich in Thailand are seriously rich, and I expect them to still be seriously rich when corona departs. I for one doubt they will be "helping" poor people. Ask yourself why, before corona, western people had to run charities in LOS. Billionaires do help. They open up hotels, restaurants, mini-marts and malls to employ lowly skilled labours otherwise has no job security. They could just sit on the money. Of course they earn a little from such business activities too. But the point is, they do not need to as they already have too much money. Not to mention their normal business activities would provide a lot of job opportunities, which in turn helps the society. Give money for free to the poor was never the answer. Give money to someone else to gift the poor is an even worse idea. Establish business that employ people, especially the lower skilled people are the key to help the society. If the billionaire stops expand his business activities and be stagnant in employee the mass, instead come up dreams to go to the space, concentrate his wealth in a small area that only benefits a small handful of highly skilled people, that is more dangerous. Of course the billionaires can only do so little. I am not disputing the facts that many Thai remain marginalised. However, I would like to point out to you that billionaires do help through their business expansions. It can not reach everyone in the society, but without them the life in the country would be even worse. As long as they invest in real business to provide employment to the mass, instead of investing in bitCoin or space exploration, I have no objection for their existence. 3

Interesting you should say that, and although there seems to be some expats who have come back to open up their small businesses, witness the newly arrived numbers of tattooed uglies wandering around the place, a few others I have encountered would fit your description. Just two days ago a guy, newly arrived from England, stopped me and asked if I spoke English, so I said I did and he asked me if I lived here, so I said I did, and he then said that was good because he wanted to ask me a question: – "I want to get from here to the Ibis hotel and the motorbike taxi driver has quoted 50 baht, and I think that's a bit steep, what do you think?". Well of course I was flabbergasted to think that anyone would quibble over 50 baht, and the thought that he wouldn't be spending much here immediately came to mind. My reply to him was that 50 baht was a minimum payment as a rule, and he should settle for that and consider it money well spent. A 'high-roller'.......not a chance and if TAT are relying on the likes of this guy to bring in the billions they need to think again. Having said that he might provide a massage girl or two with some funds to buy somtam!. Edited July 26, 2021 by xylophone 2
