BANGKOK (NNT) - The Swiss Government has donated a supply of medical equipment including test kits and ventilators to Thailand to help with the country’s COVID-19 response. Thailand’s Minister of Public Health today received the equipment in the name of the Thai government.

At Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport this morning, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul, represented the Thai government in the receipt of medical supplies donated by the government of Switzerland, with the Swiss Ambassador to Thailand Helene Budliger Artieda representing the Swiss government at the ceremony.

The Swiss-donated medical equipment was transported to Thailand onboard Swiss Air Lines’ flight LX180 from Zurich, and contained 1.1 million COVID-19 antigen test kits, and 102 ventilators.

The Minister of Public Health has spoken in appreciation of the gesture of goodwill from the government of Switzerland, while stating the donated test kits will be distributed among the general public, and to health officials conducting proactive tests.

Meanwhile, the donated ventilators will be sent to hospitals facing a shortage of this kind of lifesaving equipment.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul said today the government is in the process of procuring 8.5 million test kits for members of the public across the country, under a budget of 1.014 billion baht approved by the National Health Security Committee.

She said the distribution plan for these test kits is currently being drawn up by the Department of Disease Control.
