Passive faecal incontinence

Messy, embarrassing, and debilitating.  Age 87, this was my problem until 4 months ago when it was recommended I take Mucilin high fibre supplement. Miraculous. From the first day no more soiled underwear, no more emergencies, and silky smooth evacuations.    I am so happy I just thought I would share this information in case others out there have a similar problem.

Taoism: shit happens

Buddhism: if shit happens, it isn't really shit

Islam: if shit happens, it is the will of Allah

Catholicism: if shit happens, you deserve it

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

Absolutely nothing can be added to your post sir, I'm very happy for you, and many congratulations on making it to 87, I sometimes wonder if I'll see tomorrow & I'm only 68 ish ????

A bit like Thai Airways bringing natives home then.

I predict , that unlike the OPs original problem this thread is not going to run and run.

After all, incontinence must be awful to live with but hey

**** happens !!

I am in my 70s and I use Benefibre. Tasteless and I just add it to coffee, tea and/or water. I can't compare to others as this is the only one I have used.

Happy you cleared the <deleted> problem up.

What is the difference between PASSIVE and I guess ACTIVE incontinence please?

Thoresby thank you for sharing, but a high fibre supplement for fecal incontinence is a bit of a puzzle.

Can Sheryl or someone else comment on this please.

I use Bisto. It doesn't cure it, but thickens it up a bit.    LOL   555

I was hoping for a reply as I suffer from time to time myself from this and over the years generally unpredictable insides. A scan and a colonoscopy show nothing untoward. At the moment a diet heavy on cornflakes, white rice and white bread seem to be of great help. But when you go through a phase of this it makes life difficult.

I see the Pope has had a bowel operation, but tactfully no mention of his signs and symptoms. Possibly he kept hydrogen peroxide, white vinegar and baking soda on hand to shield his problems from the world.

it needs more than a colonoscopy (colonoscopy just rules out cancer and inflammatory bowel disease - important to do, of course). There are specialized studies that can be of help including defecography but need an appropriate specialist. Prof. Chucheep at Bangkok Christian/Bumrungrad/Chula is recommended if in Bangkok.

When the incontinence is only of liquid stool, need to determine if it is oozing around an impaction/harder mass or if the person has diarrhea and treated/investigated further accordingly.

Thanks for that Sheryl, not actually had an incident for over a week now, perhaps it's the cornflakes.

I am still curious about the high fibre additives other posters use. On the surface it seems a bit illogical.

Fiber gives bulk to the stool

 Soft bulk, but bulk nonetheless.

Thanks again Sheryl, I had always regarded fibre as something to increase when you couldn't start but something to reduce when you couldn't stop. A little knowledge is dangerous etc.
