2 is 1
Something what they dont understand in Thailand or just dont care! Why is data on testing important? No country knows the total number of people infected with COVID-19. All we know is the infection status of those who have been tested. All those who have a lab-confirmed infection are counted as confirmed cases. This means that the counts of confirmed cases depend on how much a country actually tests. Without testing there is no data. Testing is our window onto the pandemic and how it is spreading. Without data on who is infected by the virus we have no way of understanding the pandemic. Without this data we cannot know which countries are doing well, and which are just underreporting cases and deaths. To interpret any data on confirmed cases we need to know how much testing for COVID-19 the country actually does. https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus/country/thailand

At the beginning of this outbreak I called BS on the numbers of cases based on simple common sense and what was happening around the rest of the world. And I was proven correct (despite people saying the low numbers were because of chili eating and showering). You have to apply the same logic to these vaccine numbers. Logically and in comparison to the rest of the world there is just no way they are doing that many in Thailand. It’s not sour grapes, it’s just logical in exactly the same way that case numbers were logical (and proven correct).
Phoenix Rising
NNT- National News Bureau of Thailand: Thai developed plant-based vaccine "Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences will start the first phase of clinical trials on Thailand’s plant-based coronavirus vaccine, called the "Baiya Vaccine", next month with 100 volunteers taking part. Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said, during a visit to the vaccine's production plant at Chulalongkorn University on Friday, that, if human trials are successful, the vaccine will be ready for general administration next year, adding that it can also be further developed to fight coronavirus variants and help reduce the spread." Plant based?? If that's true then I think the plant in question is the one pictured below and Anutin has probably been a frequently used volunteer. And while we're at it let's just rename the vaccine the Baiya Vaccine.

Popular Post Macrohistory
Reuters Peru study finds Sinopharm COVID vaccine 50.4% effective against infections By Marcelo Rochabrun and Roxanne Liu LIMA/BEIJING, Aug 13 (Reuters) - ...The study involving Sinopharm's BBIBP-CorV vaccine, which looked at data from February through June at a time when Peru was fighting a brutal second-wave of infections fuelled by the Lambda and Gamma variants of the coronavirus, was conducted on nearly 400,000 frontline health workers in live conditions. "The efficacy to prevent infection is not high and this is something to consider once a high percentage of the population receives its two doses, (the) moment when boosters can be considered to optimize the protection of frontline health workers," said the study published last week from scientists at Peru's National Institute of Health and two other research institutes. Yes agreed although I would argue now that those who advised on this 5% figure, ie keeping it below that, this should be discarded and thought through again. This was over a year ago they came up with that, since then we had alpha and now the most virulent strain ever, Delta. I suggest a positivity rate from that should be well below 2%. Plant based doesn't mean that they're using plants to provide the active ingredients for the vaccine. The Chulalongkorn University vaccine is a protein sub-unit vaccine, which means it uses a non-harmful protein from the virus as the antigen (the thing that induces an immune response). They then have to manufacture large amounts of this protein by culturing it in some kind of growth medium. This can be insect-based (as in the Novavax vaccine) or plant-based, as in this case. So the plants are simply being used as a growth medium. The active ingredient in the vaccine is as mentioned, a protein derived from the SARS-COV-2 virus. The actual plant medium being used to grow the proteins in, is made out of heirloom tobacco leaves from Australia.
