Just read that tonight there will be a Full BLUE Moon ie  two in any particular calendar month.

There are 13 Lunar cycles each year, so am I correct in thinking that there can only be one in any year?

And there is no reason why a Blue Moon should be bigger & brighter, as it is only we humans who named the months the way they are.

This month's "blue moon" is the other kind. The third full moon in. a season that contains four full moons is also called a blue moon by some.

The kind of blue moon you mention won't occur this month.

Either kind can only occur once in a year. and in most years don't occur at all.

Today is a astronomical seasonal blue moon, not a calendar monthly version.  There can be 2 calendar month blue moons in one year, when there is no full moon in February there will be two in both January and March, therefore two blue moon months.

Which cannot happen in a Leap Year.   Isn't our calendar confusing.

Wouldn't 13 four week months, or ten 30 day months with 10 days in a week, and six un numbered days for World holidays eg New Year, midsummer, equinoxes etc.  LOL

Dont know what you call itbut last nights Moon seemed really bright the way it lit up the garden etc quite late last night.

One of the nice things living in the sticks away from the cities is you dont get the light pollution and can enjoy the night sky more.(clouds permitting)

Today being the 23rd of August, it wouldn't be possible to have a Blue Moon (two in one month) at this early date in the month since full moons come every 29.5 days. The dates of the two full moons can only be towards the extreme beginning and end of the month.
