Featured Replies

Okay, more like one month left. Still, I really want to make use of this time, so I am asking the Thaivisa community, who over the years has shown itself to be music educationedm to make suggestions for what I should try to find and download. I have one reqeust please, someone recommend and good bagpipe player(s). Other than that just list some good stuff, thanks!

Cheers!!

are you drunk?

The version by Johnny Cash or the one by Guns 'n' Roses?

CB, I dunno how you did it, but I am currently listening to a Cash album, and last night finally watched Walk the Line about his early life. (Great movie BTW)

Thaibebop, makes me think... How about Johnny Cash's "American" Series He does an awesomely beautiful version of Nine Inch Nails "Hurt" as well as many other beautiful covers and originals.

Anything on Ninja Cuts label, Eighteenth Street Lounge label, Warp label, Theivery Corporation, Nicola Conte, Cinematic Orchestra, Gotan Project.

Deftones, Arctic Monkeys, Danzig, Helmet, Cowboy Junkies, Bette Serveert, I am Kloot, Paul Weller, Roots Manuva.... yadayadayada.

I always get lost in a bit of Steely Dan. Download yourself " Black Cow " as you wont find it on any graetest hits combos as the master was lost/nicked.

Oooooh Synchronicity: I was watching walk the line yesterday and yes it is a good movie. I thought Phonix was excellent as Cash. The next song that came up on my iTunes random mix after I sent my post was "Walk the Line" spooky.

CB

Gettin wierd.... Have you got any pills?

:o

You said you didn't need any !!!!!

( ######, fast repetitive banter.......I'll go and rest now. )

I don't need any. Cash. Pills. I'm going down slow..

I agree. I am currently listening to good ol' Johnny Cash too. The American series is totally beautiful, some of the best songs ever, sung by an ever older hoarser (spelling) rougher Cash. Very spiritual too. Also agree the movie was fab. Do you think there will be a follow up sequel, for the latter half of his life?

Funny how the coincidences happen. I was just thinking I'd put on Johnny Cash when my wife said 'Would you mind if I put on Johnny Cash?' Spooky.

I dunno about limewire anymore... But i agree in principle (nudge nudge wink wink)

Most things are avaiable and safer through torrents, but that cannot be discussed here.

Then again he might be on about that Apple DRM i-thingie

Tiggy, personally, that was my first thought after watching the movie... Love to see the same actors reprise the roles. Maybe in a couple (5-10) years?

Haven't read or seen anything about it though. Nonetheless, I can;t now imagine anyone else playing the roles of Johnny and June other than Phoenix and Witherspoon ( :o:D :D )

Did you know that they both really sang everything you saw in the movie?

Yes I do. Obviously very talented individuals...

Did you know that they both really sang everything you saw in the movie?

John Carter Cash was a consultant on the movie and Pheonix was really worried about doing the singing. He spoke about it to Carter-Cash saying "I'm not a singer" Carter-Cash looked at him and said "Neither was my dad"

CB

I don't think there would be much point of a sequel - the main highlights of his career were almost all in the 50s and 60s.

I read his book, Walk the Line - it is a really good book and you sort of feel you know him by the end of it.

I bought a Sandisk mp3 from Best Buy and they gave me two free months from Rhapsody. I am not sure if I will be able to keep all this music when I tell them I don't want to continue their service at $15 a month!! I hope that I will, even though I can't burn anything or get it to my hard drive. :o Free my arse.

Great idea Kayo!! I tried and they only have Five, that's it! These on-line music places don't ever really make sense to me.

Here's the site for Eighteenth Street Lounge, it has a player on there so you can listen to the song (only intros though!)

http://www.eslmusic.com/ they're based in Washington DC, Its mainly latin inspired acid jazz and lounge. Frederico Aubele, Nicola Conte, Thievery Corporation are some of the main featured artists, but I've yet to hear anything less than outstanding form this label.

Ninja cuts can be found here, http://www.ninjatune.net/ninja/release.php?id=137 they're a UK based label and is more a Breakbeat and Hip-Hop inspired Jazz format, artists include Coldcut/DJ Food, Ursula Rucker, Roots Manuva, Funki Porcini and The Hebaliser. The Ninja Cuts compilations such as 'Flexistentalism' and 'Xen Cuts' would give you a good taste of the artists on this label.

It's all good stuff, I've got a very wide taste in music and I'm just as happy listening to this type of stuff as I am listening to Stiff Little Fingers (inflammable material is a great album btw) or some old school techno circa '88. Infact with Winamp loaded up with my music and the crossfader on it is surprising just how well different genres go together

Enjoy.

I've just DL'd 'Verve Remixed' vols 123. Its all old jazz vocal tunes with remixed upbeat tunes, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone et al, very good and more hit than miss. I also grabbed somebodys DJ house tunes collection, 2.3GB and some blinding tunes in there, full length tracks, fantastic.
