snoop1130
Bangkok, (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is asking the public to help sort contaminated rubbish, especially masks, Antigen test-kits, tissue paper, single-use utensils, water bottles, and straws, and put it into a separate bag, as the amount of contaminated trash has been spiking in recent months. Since the virus outbreak in April, which was fueled by crowds in pubs and bars, then again in June and July with the arrival of the even-more contagious Delta variant, the increase in infected trash feeding into the system has become continuous. In Bangkok alone, the month of August saw daily incoming contaminated trash rise to 126.7 tons (70.38 tons contaminated, and 56.32 tons of COVID-19 of infected trash), a number more than double the 61.19 tons in April. Monthly volume of contaminated waste in Bangkok: April: 61.19 tons (contaminated: 45.77 tons, COVID-19 Infected: 15.41 tons) May: 71.24 tons (contaminated: 47.86 tons, COVID-19 Infected: 23.38 tons) June: 83.86 tons (contaminated: 53.41 tons, COVID-19 Infected: 30.45 tons) July: 98.83 tons (contaminated: 61.18 tons, COVID-19 Infected: 37.65 tons) August: 126.7 tons (contaminated: 70.38 tons, COVID-19 Infected: 56.32 tons) Bangkok’s incinerators capable of disposing of hazardous waste, handle 70 tons a day, already exceeding their intended capacity. The public is, therefore, requested to help authorities by placing all COVID-19 contaminated waste into a plastic bag and labeling it ’infectious waste,’ then spraying it with disinfectant before sealing the bag tight. Meanwhile, the Municipality is also installing additional special bins for the public to use for the safe disposal of hazardous waste. -- © Copyright NNT 2021-08-31 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates
HeijoshinCool
. So, who is the guy whose job it is to sort through all trash and weigh only contaminated trash? 1
Popular Post trainman34014
The increase in Trash dumped all over the local countryside has been 'Spiking' for the last 20 years. The only people clearing any of it are the 'collectors' of Cans, Bottles and Cardboard which they are able to sell for much needed cash, the remainder lays around forever. Gladly, if the local governor would see fit to supply different bins in which to sort out the rubbish, and then of course have different collection vehicles to pick it up. As it is now we have one row of 20 bins, everything goes into them and one truck comes alternate days to dump it all in. 1
khunjeff
This story is now trotted out every few days. There is no way that Bangkok is generating "56.32 tons of COVID-19 infected trash" daily - I suspect they are classifying ALL masks, tissues, etc. as "Covid infected", even though clearly the overwhelming majority is not. it's also clear that there are essentially no "special bins for the public to use for the safe disposal of hazardous waste", and no one is going to go searching for whatever tiny number might exist somewhere. And since the contents of ALL bins, regardless of how they're labeled, are emptied into the same trucks and mixed together, it's not clear how any efforts by the public could realistically address this alleged problem.

They tried that in the next village. All bins full to overflowing with, well, everything. Fail!! We do sort our domestic waste, cardboard, cans, bottles. The collectors of same are very happy they don't have to sort. The only "contaminated" waste we generate is used masks which get bagged on their own and left by the normal bin. Madam initiated this on her own, no input from moi. EDIT The bins in question, evidently someone heard that Google Maps were coming and emptied them. The yellow one is for recycleable plastics. 1
KannikaP
There is no rubbish collection in our village, so we have a 'local incinerator' twice a week. Everything burnable goes on it, Glass bottles, tin cans, plastic bottles etc are collected one a month.

You are lucky, we don't have a truck at all. 1
