PHUKET: The Governor of Phuket, Narong Woonciew, clarified this morning (Aug 31) that two patients infected with COVID-19 had in fact fled from a quarantine centre situated in Karon, which conflicted with a statement he gave yesterday claiming there had been no escapees.

Governor Narong said at a mass assembly of Phuket police gathered at the Phuket Emergency Operation Center at the Phuket Provincial Police headquarters in Phuket Town yesterday that reports of patients escaping from any quarantine venue were false; “our police, military officers and relevant officials have checked and found that no patients have fled from any field hospital,” he said.

However, today he released a statement that two patients had escaped a facility based in Karon that has been designated as a quarantine centre but that they have since returned to the venue.

Well done Gov.

Fessing up to making a mistake.

Sadly, you may be moved to an inactive post if you continue to tell the truth.

this 'inactive post' area must be vast..chokkers with corrupt officials and other government departmental naughty kids.

I’m not sure he admitted any mistake. At least not that can be read in the article. He simply gave a correct statement, that conflicted with the previous days incorrect statement.

so he’s probably safe in his job for now.

This whole Phuket sand pit has been a WOFTAM.!!!! From what l have seen there are not many tourists in Phuket and the ones that are are not very happy. ( Nothing to do ) On top of this Covid infections are approaching 200 a day when, as it was announced originally that if over 90 infections in a day were reported for a few days, the whole set up would reviewed and maybe shut down. Meanwhile most other tourist (beach) destinations have been left out in the cold with no financial support or help ( gone to Phuket )and no vaccines. l say no more.

Must have been seriously good weed as the picture showed some people jumping up and down the "quarantined garden" - or did I get something wrong yesterday.

Well, on another note, the same platform on the same day announced, that nobody fled the scene .... Not, that it is of any relevance but it would be nice, if the higher-ups could make up their mind and cross-check facts ......... And drugs in a hospital; I was of the opinion that drugs are not legal and hence, like anything else (prostitution, corruption) therefore not in existence in Thailand ........
