webfact
Picture: Sanook Sanook reported that the cabinet decided on December 29th that 24th September would be a special extra Thai public holiday. This would create a three day long weekend at the end of this month and be one of 24 days off. This was to mark Mahidol Day according to official calendars. But those same calendars don't actually list it as an official day off merely that it is a special day. Apparently government departments were given leeway as to whether to give staff off and the same goes for the private sector and banks. ASEAN NOW suggests that people with official business on that day should check whether it is being considered a day off or not. They might also ask their employers the same question. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-09-07 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Popular Post Sydebolle
Back in the day the number of official holidays per year was thirteen; to be substituted if falling on a weekend. Now it is 24; a hefty 11 days more to compensate the ever-overworked Khun Thai?

OJAS
Well, according to the pinned Holidays thread in the General forum, 24th September has been designated as an "Additional Stimulus Holiday". I strongly suspect that the only thing it will succeed in stimulating, based on a similar so-called "stimulus" holiday earlier this year, will be the further spread of COVID-19 (assuming that it does, in fact, go ahead, of course)! unblocktheplanet
How many toes do the generals have among them. They've shot themselves in the foot (& all of us) again & again & again. Did they learn nothing from the Songkran debacle?!?

Ah, yes, didn't they, in their infinite "wisdom", decide to make Songkran a 4-day holiday this year (12th-15th April)? I think that the 12th was the additional "stimulus" holiday I had in mind. All in all those 4 days proved a truly golden opportunity for COVID-19 to spread, which the virus grabbed with open arms!
internationalism
so the government is dishing out bank holidays in just less then 3 weeks before that day. What does it tell how well organised are they? How far in the future they do plan running the country? Looks, like calendars are rewritten on the spot, just to please certain coterie. Where would it end? What's the point of holidays in the middle of 4rd wave and in the middle of the rainy season? Popular Post Misterwhisper
With half the working population out of work thanks to government incompetence, why would they need an "extra day off" anyway?

internationalism
Bank of Thailand lists 24.9 as special added holiday, but doesn't mention 29.12 at all. Probably the other banks will follow. As to December, they still might decide later on also include it. December is a much better option for holidaying because of lower temperatures and less humidity. Now it's raining daily. One of my neighbours already got sacks of sand in case of flooding. He was a marine officer so he might know well why he is doing it
kickstart
I would have thought they would wait to the end of October ,the end of the Thai lent ,and make that a holiday . They pencilled in a 4-day holiday for the Kings birthday and the start of the Thai lent back in July ,but was ........er cancelled.
