Monsoon trough causing rain across country

BANGKOK (NNT) - Almost every region of Thailand is seeing heavy rain this week, emanating from a monsoon trough across the country. A warning has been posted for 16 provinces over possible flooding due to heavy rain.

 

The monsoon trough over Thailand’s northern, central, eastern, and northeastern region is developing into a low-pressure system over the South China Sea, together with moderate seasonal monsoonal winds. It is now causing an increase in precipitation in the northern, northeastern, eastern, central, and southern regions, as well as the Greater Bangkok Area.

 

Torrential rain is expected today in Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Nakhon Sawan, Lopburi, Saraburi, Singburi, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. Villagers in these 16 provinces are warned of potential harm from heavy rains and possible flash floods.

 

Less rain is expected during 11-17 September as the monsoonal trough is forecast to move in a northerly direction, prevailing over the northern and lower-northeastern regions instead.

 

Meanwhile, tropical storm Conson currently in the central parts of the Philippines is now moving in a northwesterly direction, and is expected to enter the South China Sea tomorrow.

 

The storm is expected to move over China’s Hainan island into the Gulf of Tonkin off Vietnam’s coast.

 

At the same time, Typhoon Chanthu formed in the Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines is now heading towards Taiwan.

 

The Meteorological Department says these two storms are not having any effect on Thailand at the moment, while urging the public to keep themselves updated with the department’s latest announcements and warnings.

Must have moved already.

Here in the west of Khon Kaen mostly dry through the day.

Mate in Udon (120 km north) would hardly leave the hotel for a walk today.

 

And the tropical storm Conson is predicted on other website to move far north, touching Thailand on the very edge at worst. Wait and see.

Heavy rain throughout the Sukhothai, Plok, Phichit area.

Last night was something else.....extending from late afternoon.

 

The local forecast is calling for continuous heavier rains for the next few days. 

Appears that the mountainous north will become deluged, bringing with it the usual high water/flooding downriver.

West of Bangkok it's been 3 days of late afternoon, night showers.

Nothing too heavy, actually it feels col and fresh for once.

I used to manage a record shop back in the last century and would play that if it was raining. And when it was closing time I'd sometimes play the national anthem. Always brought a smile.
