webfact
File photo: REUTERS Thailand on Friday ( October 8 ) reported 11,140 new COVID-19 cases, 9,933 recoveries and 116 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. ◼︎ 9,933 recoveries ◼︎ 11,068 new infections ◼︎ 72 prison / prison infections ▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 1,660,574 ▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 1,534,364 Friday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 1,689,437 with 17,534 deaths. After months of regulatory red-tape tying up vaccines in Thailand being accepted as “fully vaccinated” in the UK, the rules are finally changing as of Monday, October 11th. Previously, if one was vaccinated with AstraZeneca or other major brands in Thailand, they would not be considered “fully vaccinated” in the UK upon return, leading to confusion and anger on social media. However, as of today, October 8th, 2021, that guidance has changed and will become effective on Monday, October 11th, 2021. *The Pattaya News contributed to this report Discover Cigna’s range of health insurance solutions created for expats and local nationals living in Thailand - click to view -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-10-08 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

Case counts remain high with an average of 10,445 per day for the last 7 days. The number of deaths continues to decrease with an average of 99 deaths per day compared to 120 per day of the previous week. However deaths remains high and 5 times greater than the average of 19 deaths per day during 3rd wave April to June. Severe cases (decreasing by 7%), ventilated cases (2%) continue to decrease, though the rate of decrease has slowed down over the last few weeks and counts remain high.ANALYSIS Thailand may be over the worst, for now. However, there remains a long way to go, cases and deaths remain very high, many times greater than the previous peak in the 3rd wave in April to June. This includes the number of active cases including those that require direct medical care with an average of almost 111,000 active cases per day over the last week. Severe and ventilated cases, in particular, while decreasing the rate of decrease has slowed down a great deal and continue to present a high workload for front-line health care professionals. https://www.who.int/thailand/emergencies/novel-coronavirus-2019/situation-reports 7
Popular Post ThailandRyan
Looks like we are in the bottom trough of the Bell curve for cases, and not seeing a decline anymore. One can only hope that we have not entered into a new daily average of over 10k cases and a flatline as the new normal. However, we know that Covid will be with us now forever like the Flu, Pneumonia, and the common cold. All we can do at this point is to ensure the majority are vaccinated and then those of us with underlying medical conditions and over 60 have an annual booster if they are so inclined. The one thing that is very obvious is that the world needs to accept this for what it is, collect the stats annually and not collectively from the beginning of time, use a 7 day average for all categories and use those in looking backwards in comparison to see where we are going, and what tweaks to the system need to be made. Will masks be mandatory for flying in the future, will vaccine passports be needed, and the biggest question is will we need to be continually PCR tested prior to flying. Many questions as we look ahead. Hopefully the world can come together and the same rules be in place for all countries. Covid has changed the landscape and now we must use what has been learned as we move forward.

anchadian
Opinion: Easing lockdown imposes threat to those living with compromised immunity Thailand is putting up its mark as among the very few countries in the world that has not been looking at the immunosuppressive patients, a group of patients who are among the most vulnerable among the population. The immunosuppressive patients are patients who are taking immune suppressing medication, and these could be due to various factors ranging from transplant of an organ to leukemia and other autoimmune diseases. (read more here) These patients, who have low immunity due to their daily intake of immune suppressing medications have weakened immunity and are prone to most common bacterial and viral infections, let alone SAR-COV2. https://www.thaienquirer.com/33710/opinion-easing-lockdown-imposes-threat-to-those-living-with-compromised-immunity/

Many more need vaccinations as well, and yet Thailand is already giving boosters to those twice vaccinated. I see the inequity for what it is, and the majority of those getting a booster are those who work for the government in one aspect or another and then the Health care workers behind them when the Health care workers should all be vaccinated and then given boosters first, then those unvaccinated next before the Government folks and military.
Bkk Brian
The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) is concerned that tourists may not be interested in Thailand if the country takes too long to open its doors. FTI chairman Suphan Mongkolsuthee said it is safe for Thailand to open since 40 to 50 per cent of its population has been vaccinated. Also, he said, the number of daily cases has dropped, and Thailand has the facilities to treat Covid-19 patients. However, he said, the authorities should speed up the vaccination rate in the business sector before reopening the country. https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/40007232

ThailandRyan
I looked at the Chantaburi cases and realized that they had almost doubled in one day. With where the cases supposedly stemmed from it makes complete sense as to why the Governor banned all alcohol circa last years National order. Starting to make the International rounds as it is in the WorldNews now. Waiting on the Thai digital media folks to start scrubbing it from the news to keep the word from reaching outward and affecting possible tourism.
