Evacuation drills will take place in risky areas of Chiang Mai

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Regional Center: Region 10 and local units in Chiang Mai province will conduct evacuation drills with the local people in risky areas, as flood and mudslide can occur during this period. The drills will be implemented in Mae Tang district of Chiang Mai on June 6th, starting 10 AM.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has a policy for relevant agencies in local areas to revise and adjust the disaster prevention and mitigation plan every year. The special committee responsible for preventing disaster has ordered the Prevention and Mitigation Regional Center: Region 10 to conduct evacuation drills in Chiang Mai province. The drills being carried out are Field Training Exercise (FTX) and they will simulate level-three public disasters. In addition, the provincial, public and private sectors are also joining the drills.

Chiang Mai Governor Wichai Srikwan says his province has often encountered flood and mudslide disasters in many areas, and the evacuation drills will allow the local people to be prepared when such disasters occur. He says it is necessary for all sides to work together in evacuating people in risky areas. Mr. Wichai says the provincial authority would like public members to keep a close watch of the situation and be prepared to protect themselves from natural disasters.

Brilliant idea.

Now who will tell them when to evacuate, or will it be, as usual, a horse and stable door event.

Personally I'm wondering when that magnificent caldera near Sankhampaeng is going to blow..........
