khunpa
The numbers of infected are only low, because of limited testing and especially many avoiding being tested, as you will be “dragged away” to isolation no matter your condition. Thailand way of handling this is only creating more and more hidden infections. And no wonder when they treat infected like it was Ebola. I would also be very hesitant to get tested here. But at least it keeps the official numbers down. And guess that must be the plan.

If a student is positive covid then just the class isolates. Whilst still disruptive must be better than the whole school closing.

Not surprising they don’t count these in the official numbers. Why? Just because there was an obvious problem with this batch test of ATK's, would it not be better to investigate and find out why after inducing fear and panic in those who tested positive by quarantining them? ATK's are 96% accurate according to Thai officials and 99.9% accurate according to the NHS UK. Antigen tests in fact have a higher possibility of a false positive when not done correctly. Its a similar situation to last year when 40 PCR tests were found to be false positive in Yala. They still have PCR tests as official and instead did an investigation to find out why this happened and instead stopped using that particular lab.

Because they are unreliable as I’ve already said. They can quote whatever stats they want. Anyone who has had any personal experience of them in real life situations know these reliability numbers are nonsense. Unfortunately there seems no national policy in Thailand regards schools and how to deal with a case when its discovered, it appears to be down to each Province, in the school my daughter goes to it seems far more sensible and inline with the UK Edited November 5, 2021 by Bkk Brian

Yes of course, thats why they are counted in the daily stats in the UK and US because they are so unreliable.
Bkk Brian
Preparations underway to deal with COVID in Bangkok’s city-run schools The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has adopted measures to deal with COVID-19 infections in hundreds of schools under its jurisdiction, which are due to reopen for on-site learning on November 15th. Explaining the measures, Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang said today (Friday) that, if one student in a school is found to be infected, his or her classroom will be closed for three days and all the classmates considered at high-risk will be isolated at home. Those who are at low-risk will be allowed to continue their studies as usual, in another classroom, and their condition will be observed. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/preparations-underway-to-deal-with-covid-in-bangkoks-city-run-schools/

The school indicated the MOE will notify them as soon as they have the statistics for the school figured out as far as the vaccinated Teachers, students and then the unvaccinated students under 12. How can they take into account the un-vaccinated students under 12? Approval for under 12's maybe months away. The school my daughter goes to their policy which is endorsed of course by the local Province is: ------------------------------------- "Where there is a single case in any given class, the class will not need to close. However, if there are multiple cases, it may be necessary to close the class for a period of seven days. LRCs (low risk case) Although there are no longer testing requirements for LRCs, we have put in place measures to continue to protect our community. Where a child is identified as an LRC, they should remain away from school until they have taken a Nasopharyngeal Antigen Test at a clinic or hospital. This can be done on the day that they are informed they are an LRC and the person can return as soon as they have the result from the clinic and it is provided to the school. They should then continue to self-monitor for a period of seven days. HRCs (high risk case) If a student is identified as an HRC, they should self-isolate at home for a period of seven days. Prior to returning to school, they must take a Nasopharyngeal Antigen Test at a clinic or hospital. The result of this test must be sent to the school." ----------------------------------------------- No expensive PCR tests needed, if you test negative with ATK then you are negative. Like I said in an earlier post, schools here have been using 1000's of ATK's every week and they have all returned negative tests so far. The Nasopharyngeal Antigen Test is WHO approved Edited November 5, 2021 by Bkk Brian
ThailandRyan
I guess it comes down to the proposal pitched by the school. It is a Buddhist wat school with grades from pre-k up to 12 year olds (P1 to P6) on one side and the upper grades from M1 to M6 on the backside. They only mix during drop off and pick up.

Amazing isn't it, all the lives that could have already been saved if they had done the paper work for the 1 million free Pfizer donation that has still not come through after more than 2 months, let alone the 1.5 million donation from Poland fiasco. Sinovac however straight through............despite saying they would not be using it again after the current stocks had finished.
Bkk Brian
Improper handling test kits may have led to false positives at Mukdahan school The false positive results produced by COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits (ATKs) at Khamsoi Pittayasan School, in Thailand’s north-eastern province of Mukdahan, may be due to improper testing or storage of the ATKs, said Department of Disease Control (DDS) Director-General Opart Karnkawinpong today (Friday). https://www.thaipbsworld.com/improper-handling-test-kits-may-have-led-to-false-positives-at-mukdahan-school/

I'm also positive that there's no question that Sinovac is an inferior choice to the other options. I'm not saying that it's garbage, but I am saying that there's enough evidence that the other vaccines perform better. I understand your point that anything is better than nothing, but when I watch this government fumble the gift of quality vaccines from the US and Poland, and then reverse course on their plan not to continue using Sinovac, it causes me to wonder about the decision making here. I'll agree that what you say is right, if you're living in a vacuum. But that's not what's happening here. And I firmly believe there are better options available.
