In what seems like a case of “different sides of the same coin”, Thailand’s Foreign Ministry and Thammasat University Hospital have sparred over the collapsed deal for 1.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine offered for free by Poland.

What happened?

Thammasat University Hospital spent three months preparing the deal in collaboration with Thonburi Healthcare Group (THG), one of many private firms with which it has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs). In late August, Thammasat was given the power to assign a representative to procure or import COVID-19 vaccines.

The MoUs allowed private firms to acquire vaccines under the university’s auspices, provided they cover related expenses like transportation and insurance and give the university a portion of the doses imported. Thammasat University Hospital’s aim was to use its share of the donated doses to provide free COVID-19 jabs to people at risk.

The regime has extreme tumescence regarding the private sourcing of vaccines.

Not sure why this is? Loss of baksheesh? Loss of face?

But it's got to stop.

CRA of course was free to purchase, import and sell Sinopharm for 888 baht/dose.

'Nuff said.

CRA purchased direct from Sinopharm a Chinese government-owned company.

You can read this 3 NOV 2021 article via Google translate but this may not be a simple "brown envelope" matter when there could be multiple Moderna

contract violations on whether "donated" surplus Moderna vaccines can then be sold in any manner.

The government screwed up.

There running out of Astra Zeneca and Pfeizer is non existent for many in Issan.

I assume they didn't get a kickback or other favors.

the government hates thonburi hospital for trying to bring pfizer a few months ago.

Their chairman accused prayuth personally for corruption.

But there is also resistance from vax producers itself, who would prefer their vax being oudated and wasted, so they can sell more.

There were cases when out of dates had to be disposed.

Even this pfizer donated from the USA was only a few weeks to expiry. The rest of this same donation, 1mln doses, are expiring now in the warehouses.

Kickbacks are going to governments for purchasing, but in some cases more dosh is coming from obstructing vax

People need to read the actual article! A private company was facilitating the import for the university. This company was going to pay for the logistics, shipping, etc in exchange for 2/3 of the vaccines which they planned to sell! The Polish government told the Thai government that they couldn’t sell the vaccines. Therefore, the Thai government could not sign off!
