The post pandemic recovery of its tourism industry will see Thailand target ‘quality’ tourists and first timers.

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) governor Yuthasak Supasorn, said in order for Thailand’s tourism sector to be sustainable in the future, the country should aim to attract high value travellers.

Indian tourists, not only from India but from Indian communities living around the world, would be targeted.

Thailand is hoping to tap into the 600 million strong younger generation, which also includes families and Indians wanting to get married overseas.

Thailand is already the number one overseas destination for weddings for Indians.

Pre-pandemic, Indian weddings brought approximately 30 billion baht in revenue to Thailand.

Meanwhile, Immigration Bureau’s deputy chief Pol Maj-General Archayon Kraithong has said that his officers are ready for an influx of foreign tourists in the run up to holiday season.

To date, approximately 20,000 foreigners have visited Thailand since Nov 1, with more expected to arrive during what would traditionally be the peak of Thailand’s high season during December and in to the new year.

Yawn; more nonsense that we've heard before, they may as well just keep their mouths shut as these 'predictions' never happen.

How many of that 20,000 that have arrived are actually 'Tourists' ?   Not more than 2,000 would be my guess !

Still looking for the real Millionaires and not the two week type it appears.

Alas still resting on past laurels.  Time to regroup and re-brand.  Lets call it Thailand 5.0 where we want folks who will buy up the empty condos, work for a pittance while paying taxes, and yet already be true millionaires and get those free visas.  Does someone see any issues......rhetorical question.

Thailand is stuck in the past while other countries around her move forward into the 22nd century.

First timers are the least able to navigate all the hurdles and obstacles they place in the way of getting here. It is painful enough for seasoned travellers to Thailand to endure.

So the circle has completed and we are back at the rich Indians idea.

Let’s me take a “wild” guess. Next week the rich Russians?

No they want the first timers as they will be easier to rip off than people who have been before and know all of the scams .....................LOL

I was just at Makro shopping with all the high quality rich Russians and they all had their masks around their chins.  Jesh.  Decided I'm not going back there, too many other shopping options.

On slow news days, do they just take this article, mix the words up a little, and send it to press?

I think that the Thai authorities understand that rich tourists will visit Thailand only 2 times at the same time - the first and the last. ????
I have seen the phrase about the Jet-ski mafia many times. Someone can explain what is the danger of this? I have used jet-ski in Phuket and there were no problems. As far as I heard, there were previously problems in Pattaya, but after the introduction of compulsory insurance, the problems should have disappeared ????

India (and China) have always been known for their quality high-spending tourists.

"We'd like a coke and four straws please!"

The one coke and 5 straws brigade from India are not going to save Thailand

There is no doubt there are some nice foreign built hotels here but step outside into the filth and garbage and it's a whole different picture from the marble floors of the hotel

I have fond memories of the pristine holiday destination in Spain Portugal Greece Italy and generally around the med - you could eat off the footpaths and general infrastructure it is so clean and engineered - absolutely spotless and not a tile out of place

Thailand has had huge tourism income for decades and what did they do with it ?  - stuff it in their greedy corrupt pockets instead of spending it on infrastructure - they only have themselves to blame for the mess

They may target say a million first timers, but when those first timers see the entry Thai pass farce I pretty much guarantee they might get a dozen or less

Wisdom, plans and predictions dispensed from gleaming ivory towers in the clouds. Does anyone of them have an actual plan or will they ride the gravy train to it's demise.
