Prayuth: Not opening bars and pubs is necessary - threatens action against violators, praises self

Sanook reported that Thai prime minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said yesterday that it was necessary to delay the reopening of pubs and bars from his original December plan.

Nightclubs look set to stay shut in Thailand until at least mid-January, notes ASEAN NOW.

The PM said that there were not enough protocols in place to allow such venues to reopen next month.

He said  Ministry of Health advice on what to do next would inform subsequent decisions.

Then with a militaristic flourish he warned pubs, bars and nightclubs breaking the law that they would be found out and prosecuted.

Softening the rhetoric slightly he said that everyone should get out and enjoy themselves at Loy Krathong on Friday though it was everyone's responsibility to follow the rules.

Then he went into standard positivity and self-praise mode.

After his timely reopening more and more hotels were being booked, he claimed.

He said he had personally intervened to make sure that tourists' experiences at the airport were speeded up with more electronic means to save their valuable time.

He claimed that tourists were thrilled with these measures instigated by him.

ASEAN NOW notes that more tourists might be thrilled with Prayuth if they were able to get a drink after 9pm or even go to a bar.

Online forums are full of people saying that while such draconian measures exist they will not come to Thailand and perhaps seek elsewhere for their holidays.

Is it any wonder that things are in such disarray when you have an egocentric moron, dislocating his shoulder to pat himself on the back, when in truth all he has brought about is disaster?

  • One can only laugh at this   what was the predicted number for Nov - I recall it was over 1m, official number is 50k so far and likely many of those are not actually tourists   del

Amazing how most things are about him.

Yes trying to polish a curd and giving a large pat on the back for the mess he has created.

Interesting journalism. What he means he will bomb the lot if they do not do as they are told. What a great tourist experience it is.

I wonder what his end game is.  He obviously has one - the decision to delay until mid January (with no guarantee) is OTT ridiculous with obvious observable intended consequences.

The lunacy defies even his level of idiocy and implies that the outcome (for him) will be more beneficial than the obvious detrimental outcomes to the economy.

It will all make sense when his end game becomes apparent. Maybe he's just negotiating through surrogates to buy the lock stock and barrel freehold to Phuket, Samui, and Walking street and this is his big hammer negotiating tool.

Oddly enough, and because this is Thailand, it could be just as simple as that.

I saw a tourist who seemed to be thrilled. He wasn't at the airport, however. He was walking down the street holding hands with a Thai woman who looked to be 30-40 years his junior.

Funny what sort of things make people thrilled. For some, according to the PM, it's more machines at the airport that 'save their valuable time'. For others, it's the chance to engage in the biological imperative for just a token fee.

Yet he will let 400,000 people in across the land borders soon.  I guess I just don't understand.

'Then he went into standard positivity and self-praise mode'.

I suppose he has to do this - there is no way most of the populace would be praising him.

I just shake my head in disbelief at his inane utterances.

So much talk of would be Thailand bound tourists looking at the new Cambodian arrival deal. Looks more attractive and easier ... on paper ..we shall await the reality and observe. Hope it's a kick up the bum to Thailand . They deserve to be taught a lesson for what they are putting arrivals through .

I think it is very likely that it is the intention, probably not for him but for those he is "beholden to".

I can only think that mid January will be the most likely time when 70% of the whole population will have been vaccinated, and that's being used as the parameter for 'normality'.   Still doesn't make sense though, when the provinces that are 'open', and Bangkok in particular, have higher daily new infection rates than some of the 'closed' provinces.

What a plonker.

Don't blame the prime mister. He listens to and blindly follows his fortune teller, blame him.

Obviously not the ones owned / protected by his own minions, or the RTP.

-Will be a nice little Christmas  / New Year bonus for them, I imagine.

Probably extending the ban to Chinese New Year, to be announced mid January

A Legend....In his own mind !

It's just how much you pay.

Walked yesterday to soi 4.

The 2 or 3 bars on the left site were well visited. Mostly farang and I didn't see a single one having something to eat.

They were sitting and having drinks out of bottles. Not using any mugs.

Imagine what the numbers would be like if they opened bars and nightclubs for NYE and Christmas break.

Is that not a time for a lot of tourists to come to Thailand or does Thailand only support the Chinese New Year

  • Popular Post

Certainly. A country leader without any future visions for his people. From a sociopolitical point of view, the backward trend since 7 Years towards medieval conditions is unmistakable.
