Thailand’s Parliament, during a joint session for its first reading today (Wednesday), voted to reject a constitutional amendment draft, dubbed “the people’s charter”, which sought to abolish the Senate, revamp independent political institutions and the constitutional court and prevent coup d’états.

Drafted by reformist groups, led by “Re-solution” and endorsed by the signatures of over 135,000 people, 203 MPs and 3 senators voted in favour and 249 MPs and 224 senators voted against. 3 MPs and 3 senators abstained.

To pass, more than half of all the MPs and Senators combined need to vote in favour, including at least 84 senators.

It is as was expected.. so no news in fact. They claim the constitution was accepted by a lot people but I wonder if who from which country knows what is in the constitution of their country... As same here.. The constitution was accepted because it was told it was good and a lot of people voted in confidence, but now the problems rise time after time

In my "neck of the woods", which is generally strongly opposed to this government, when it was a straightforward coup appointed junta (and now in it's "democratically elected" form), they got round expected opposition to the new constitution by simply not holding the referendum!

The turkeys can't be expected to vote for Xmas.

This is why thanksgiving exists!

Surviving Xmas doest mean the time won't come!!

Maybe soon enough the ppl will get a chance to question these self appointed "senators" and dish out some suitable military-like punishment for actual treason against the citizens of Thailand.

Absolute goons demonstrating their fealty to the worst leader this nation has seen in quite some time. One can only hope their time will come. One can only hope the people will hold them responsible for their serial crimes.

One can only hope for progress, at some point in Thailand's future. Thailand continues it's rapid march toward oblivion, irrelevance, and a future of poverty.

Of course it did... did we expect anything else to happen?

Well THAT totally is a surprise.  So progressive, it hurts!  So sad for the millions of good Thai people who deserve so much more than this idiotic Govt.

70+ million Thais have a choice if they chose to get off their backsides and do something about it.
