webfact
A former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Suthep Thaugsuban, was granted bail by the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders after malfeasance charges were filed against him, by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), in connection with a 5.3-billion-baht project for the construction of 396 police stations when he was in office just over a decade ago. Suthep is best known as the leader of the now-defunct People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), the political group that held massive street demonstrations against the Yingluck Shinawatra administration in the year leading up to the May 2014 coup. Four other individuals and a company were also charged for their alleged involvement at the time when Suthep was deputy prime minister in the government of then Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva. Among the other defendants are former police chief Pol Gen Pateep Tanprasert and PCC Development and Construction Company. Popular Post JCauto
What is it they say about riding tigers? Good to see at least SOME consequence for this ***** for his meddling in democracy and paving the way for the coup. Not that you can ever truly catch an eel as slippery as this one. The Bangkok newspapers deserve a heaping helping of ***** as well for their enabling of this whole mess. They sure hated Thaksin (the legitimate choice of a strong majority of Thai citizens), and were determined to ensure the military stepped in to maintain the status quo. And of course, the better off people in Bangkok were A-OK with sacrificing their democratic rights in order to overturn the will of the rural people. Still waiting for a mea culpa on that one from a single one of these hypocrites.

klauskunkel
from the article: Quote Suthep told the media that he followed the regulations in endorsing the project to build stations and police accommodation. Yup, they all follow regulations that they have put in place, don't they.

They're all at it; start the day after contracts are signed; that way the money trail is still visible.

tomacht8
He is innocent. Just like all the other politicians and officials who have come to inexplicable wealth. It is tragic that 95% of Thais do not even notice that they are being fooled.
Sir Dude
Can't abide this duplicitous little snake who wriggles out of everything... because he knows where all the skeletons are buried. Truly the dinosaur poster-boy for all that is wrong with the old ways of doing things and Thailand's politics.
