Psa Blood Test

Featured Replies

Beer raises your PSA level which shouldn't be more than four.

So lay off the booze for a day or two before having the test. You also must starve for 12 hours prior of course.......

Have a Urine test at the same time to check for evidence of Cancer.

Oh! Ask for a PSA FREE test as well as the ordinary PSA one.

Incidentally, if the Doctor sticks his finger up your Bum to check the size etc of your Prostate, THAT will raise your PSA Level if they take the Blood afterwards.

They usually take the Blood first. But knowing Thai Hospitals........

The PSA test is not a very reliable one. It's just an indication of the state of your prostate. Only a Biopsy will tell for sure if Cancer is present.

And if it is, and you are over 70, it will usually be better to leave it alone, as the various operations etc for Prostate Cancer are very drastic and the after effects are too horrible to contemplate!

In any case NEVER let them cut unless you have had a second opinion.

My dad is just getting over chemo for prostate cancer.. He's 74 and they couldn't operate, but the chemo seems to have worked. Having seen what the chemo did to him and how much he hated it, I can well see the sense in early detection.
