Daily News reported that strict Covid-19 measures and protocols continued to be in place for foreign tourists and Thai party-goers in the Khao San area of Bangkok.

Local district chief Wasan Bunmeunwai and Chanasongkhram police chief Pol Col Sanong Saengmanee joined a plethora of officials and unfurled a banner saying that Covid-19 was not over yet.

Checks were continuing at many establishments in the famous tourist street for places like massage shops, pubs and bars who have successfully applied to be treated as restaurants allowed to serve alcohol.

There are ATK testing sites at both ends of the street in Banglamphu. You need to test negative to get in.

Police and local officials are doing three rounds of checks.

At 6 pm they check the registers of businesses to make sure staff have had their ATK tests every few days.

At 9 pm they check that places serving alcohol stop serving booze.

And at 11 pm they check that restaurants that continue to offer food service are shut.

Wasan said that these kinds of measures had been in place since the start of November and he was happy that the regulations were being followed and enforced correctly.

Maybe Im cynical , but do the Police get a cut from the hospital bills ?

Insured foreigners get sent to an overpriced hospital and do the police get a slice ?

LOL, there are more cops than people there these days. Maybe they should scrub the road with noxious chemicals again? They need something to draw people in so maybe a comedy show like that will work.

They get a cut of everything else, so they probably do!

They will be honing their scamming skills on each other while the country is almost devoid of foreign tourists with tea money to be extracted????

Honestly, it must be slightly more enjoyable to walk down that street, without all the people.

Never liked it, never will.

Made lots of friends there though - the good old 90s and noughties.

Does this meaning blocking other routes on to khao san road... ????

I've lived in Thailand for almost thirty-five years and I have never been to Khao San Road.  I do my best to avoid Bangkok altogether.  In fact, it has been over a decade since I was last there.

Yes, and what a heavy burden they are finding it to be.

Have I got this right , you have to get a swab stuck up your nose and wait for a positive or negative result just to walk down a road ?

and as a foreigner , if you were tested positive , you would have to go into quarantine.

Some bars on soi 4 testing now aswell, got the view if positive they just send you home to self isolate, no hidden ambulances on hand and no personal details taken.

They said test valid for 72 hours and some people were just showing their own tests. Makes sense to test before you go out and take that with you, whether they will all trust or not is a different story but that approach seems fairly reasonable.

However for me if they are doing this then just open the areas that require tests fully and normal hours, if you are testing everyone to be covid free on entry what sense does it make to close early.

to be fair, if it's the pesky foreigners who are infecting good old thai citizens with covid it's worth their while employing more police officers than tourists on khao san road...

I was on Khao San road a week ago Saturday.  The taxi driver dropped us off at a business in the area.  I forget about the testing until it was too late.  When we got to the road there was no one stopping cars to do tests so it wasn't required for me.  We had a few hours to kill so we walked a bit and ate at a restaurant returning around 1930.  Again no one at the entrance administer a test.  There was a testing site set up mid way (ish) down the road and a couple of restaurants had signs up saying you needed to show a test but they were the minority.  We had an hour foot massage and was not asked for a test either.

It was very empty.  Here are a few pictures from that night around 1930.

I should say the pictures aren't of the main party street but it was about the same.

PITY they can not check for helmetlesss motorbike riders, and illegal undertaking !!!!!

Is it officially illegal? The undertaking? See it every day and thought it was just part of the Thailand  flow of traffic. The 'norm', as it were.

Just a shiite time to be around really, and as predicted the Thai authorities go ott and complicate things. I mean, what next, a covid test enter 7-11? F a doodle do!

"Illegal Undertaking"?

You mean there are body snatchers out there, ready to steal your dear, departed uncle Terdsak for a quick, illicit cremation?

They should use this image in the tourist ads. Holidaymakers will be climbing over each other to get to Thailand!

Bitter sweet seeing the D&D Inn green sign in the background. I stayed there a few times back in the day
