Thailand's charismatic investigator Lt-Gen Surachate Hakpan was at the head of the table at Kamphaeng Phet provincial police HQ yesterday, reported Siam Rath.

The man known as Big Joke - popping up everywhere these days after his rehabilitation into the upper echelons of the RTP after  a fall from grace - was checking up on the latest developments in the case where 23 Myanmar illegals were abandoned at a housing estate in the north western Thai province.

Following an accident four illegal migrants were injured and 3 died.

Seven arrests have already been made among the gang involved.

Surachate promised continued action to find the ringleaders in this case and others involving the transportation of illegal migrants to work in Thailand.
