Rescue called as Thai man, 36, pops out for a cigarette and locks his one year old in the family car

Police and rescue services were called to a PTT gas station on the Sateuk - Buriram Road after getting a call from a frantic dad.

 

Bunlert, 36, from Korat had locked his one year old daughter Angpao in the family Mitsubishi Mirage. 

 

He said he'd only popped out for a minute to have a cigarette on the way home from some family business in Surin.

 

Wang Kroot resce took just ten minutes to get to the toddler.

Bunlert explained that he was going home with his wife and two kids, 1 and three months, when his wife said she needed to use the loo.

 

She got out with the baby while he was in the car with Angpao. Then the nicotine urge hit...

He said he left the engine running  and his one year old - clearly not restrained in a car seat - probably locked herself in, reported Daily News

 

He said he wouldn't be doing that again.

In my college days I worked in a corporate Mobile gas station in CA. It was a brand new corporate station with most high tech pumps of the era fitted with card readers in the days when every shops including the high end large department stores were using credit card impression machines. Almost every week I had to remind/stop a few people not to smoke sitting in their motorbikes while filling the tank.
