Popular Post webfact
Picture: Thai Rath A case with the potential to contain elements similar to that of Red Bull Boss is developing apace in Bangkok. Last night police captain Thamnong Montha of the Samrae constabulary, Chulalongkorn hospital medics and Ruam Kantanyu foundation rushed to the Somdej Prachao Taksin Bridge where a Porsche had collided with a foreigner on a motorcycle. Picture: Thai Rath The Yamaha Fino was 150 meters from the Porsche Taycan S. Severely injured with head injuries and rushed to Taksin Hospital was a man called Ahmad Wasim, 42. His nationality was not known as his ID was unclear, reported Thai Rath. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe The Porsche, parked on the left side on the downramp heading to Thonburi, had damage to the front indicating it had collided with the rider of the motorcycle. The windshield was smashed in. Picture: Thai Rath The driver was Pornmet Songmetta or Pae, 29, the third son of Gen Wirachai Songmetta, former deputy commander of the RTP and his wife Jaritha. Pae suffered a head injury after colliding with the steering wheel. The airbag reportedly did not function. He is being treated for a brain injury at Suksawat Hospital. Pae is an executive of Absolute Clean Energy, a renewable energy company. Capt Thamnong said what happened is still unclear. He has ordered alcohol tests on both the injured men. He will be studying CCTV and interviewing the men when they recover. File photo: Gen Wirachai with Lt-Gen Surachate Hakpan, or "Big Joke" Gen Wirachai was named as the 36th richest person in Thailand in the Forbes list last year. He was estimated to be worth $940M US or nearly 30 billion Thai baht. He faced trouble with the Administrative court in January and was stood down from the force. The case has echoes of the notorious Red Bull Boss case from 2012 in which the heir to the Red Bull fortune collided with and killed a policeman in Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok. Boss remains a fugitive abroad and justice has never prevailed in the case. I'm so sorry for the (poorest) people of Thailand. 75 2 20
Popular Post Enzian
Here we go again. This is like candy (or Thai "whiskey"?) to the press. So many unanswered details. What exactly was the General's trouble with the Administrative Court? And what was going on with the foreigner's permission of stay? Almost endless, not to mention the relevance to the wealth gap in the country.

Unless fuse removed, maybe in conjunction with seat belt warning ... hmm. No wonder so many go into public service, as it seems to pay very high salaries ... ???? Popular Post Neeranam
This is one of the reasons the Red Bull guy didn't face an unfair trial. If a drunk rice farmer kills a motorbike rider the fine/compensation is 50,000 baht; Boss paid millions in compensation to the family of the deceased yet is still hounded by the press just because of his wealth and who his family are. There were no witnesses in this case, yet people here automatically think the foreigner is the victim. 5 12 10

Popular Post 2long
I reckon it'll take a couple of days of Pae being in hospital before they're able to conduct that alcohol test, so he'll be clear. As for the poor motorcyclist, well with a name like that he'd be considered a lower-class citizen by the racist locals, so let's also just say he was drunk and riding dangerously and not wearing a seatbelt on his unregistered bike that had a malfunctioning airbag and he was on overstay... it's called 'deflection' and the Thais are experts at it! 19 1 2

Ah, the hypocrisy! Why hypocrisy? People that drive electric cars are essentially driving fossil fuel powered cars, as electricity has to be generated. Sounds funny to think a Tesla could effectively be a coal powered car. Until the technology is invented to make cars actually "green" this billionaires son may as well drive a Porsche. The whole green car industry is at present an interesting exercise in virtue signalling and perception management. Hope this lad he crashed into will be OK, but judging by this story the impact sounds like a high speed crash. Not expecting any justice to be served. 17 2

He was estimated to be worth $940M US or nearly 30 billion Thai baht. Not bad for a former cop and army official. Very lucrative positions, in the upper ranks. Nobody really knows the extent of the fortunes of Thailand's 2,200 generals. It is likely massive. Everything seems to funnel to the top here. A patronage system, that works like a pyramid scheme, at the expense of the vast majority of the proletariat. One can only hope this reckless Pae faces some harsh penalties for this. But, as we all know, it is very unlikely. The super rich here seem to be completely above the law. Any and all laws, especially the super weak army laws. 31

Popular Post SteveAZ
Terrible accident. Also strange on so many levels. The Porsche Taycan S has radar and cameras with a collision avoidance system that (when working) initiates emergency breaking. That the divers airbags also did not deploy makes we wonder if the car was a collision rebuild done improperly. Since the driver wasn't wearing a seat belt that means the no seatbelt alarm was also disconnected. 18 3
