Travelling abroad while Non-O visa extension is still under consideration and current visa has officially expired

Hi all,

I have a Non-O visa. Every year I do my extension a few weeks before the visa expires. However, there is a period of about a month between my visa has officially expired and the appointment fixed by the immigration office to stamp the new visa on my passport. What happens when you need to travel abroad at that very time? Can you even apply for a re-entry permit since the current visa has indeed expired?

I'd be grateful if some folks have been through this and can share their experiences and advices.

I do exactly this from time to time. You need to get a re-entry permit (normally only a single re-entry permit is necessary).

The re-entry permit will only be valid until the date you were given to collect your extension.

After you collect your extension you will need to purchase another re-entry permit if necessary, as the re-entry permit you purchased to use during the under consideration period will have expired.
