A senior police officer, overseeing the investigation into the drowning of Thai TV actress Nida Patcharaveerapong, aka “Tangmo”, said today (Friday), the high-profile case may conclude in two months, while questioning the role of the Senate committee on human rights, freedom and consumer protection in the case and whether it could be interpreted as interfering in the police probe.

At a press conference held this afternoon at Nonthaburi police station, Pol Lt-Gen Jirapat Phumjit, commissioner of Provincial Police Region 1, said that the Senate committee suggested that the police conduct lie detector tests on Nida’s five friends who were on the same boat the night she fell into the Chao Phraya River in Nonthaburi district and died.

He explained that the police investigators handling the case will first have to decide what issues should be the subject of the tests and then consult experts on whether they could be tested.

Does every body recovered from a river in Thailand get this level of investigation?

Pretty much so.

Such a pathetic police force, it beggars belief that they can even walk and breathe at the same time.

No wonder the population have so little faith, to see dozens of boats milling around on the river so they could all get in the photo opportunity was a keystone cops moment.

They manage to breathe because it's an auto response from the moment of birth, no learning required, as for walking I have no answer.

Questioning the role of the Senate committee on human rights, freedom and consumer protection in the case and whether it could be interpreted as interfering in the police probe?

Well, I wonder, how many more puzzle pieces they need as, according to the police, investigators have questioned a total of 118 people, suspects, accusers, eyewitnesses, 18 experts and 92 circumstantial witnesses. They have also examined 200 recordings from 70 CCTV cameras, three smartphones, 14 other video clips and 40 pieces of material evidence.

If you ask me, this is a case of collateral damage of the high society pulling the strings of this beautiful country. Not politically but there are so many other puppet masters around and she was, in or the other way, at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Leave such investigations in the able hands of the local boys in brown = see Koh Tao, see this case, see hundreds of other cases. Sometimes you lose and sometimes the others win!

Well, Mr. Senior Police Officer, why don't you pursue your veiled threat to the Senate committee to its end and find out to your shame that they were not really interfering, but were just not at all confident in the RTP's willingness to conduct an uncorrupted investigation.

Then you can sue them for defamation, tarnishing, damaging, you know, all that good stuff...

Tarnishing and damaging their reputations? The RTP do that themselves, on a daily basis, quite effectively!

Huh? So, why 2 months to conclude this? A better solution might be to send top detectives for training overseas, so the competence level rises.

Or, keep politics and cronyism out of it.

The RTP. Thailand's greatest embarrassment, failure and disappointment. Only the educational system is more broken.

I don't know which country you are suggesting Mike and I fully agree with your 'why 2 months to conclude this'.  However in the UK we have a case going back 33 years that is still fully unanswered.  Politics and the UK police are at the centre of the investigation which has been the subject of a huge cover up.

Well, you are forgetting the dictating and writing of the letter of request to come in for an interview, the post system, the dictating and writing of the reminder to come in for an interview, the post system, the dictating and writing of order to come in for and interview, the post system, the dictating and writing of the threat of further action unless they come in for an interview, the post system, writing the arrest warrant , asking for an arrest warrant, getting the warrant, arranging a car, getting some oil,  stopping at Mr Doughnut, driving to interviewees house, finding out where he has gone on holiday...........................................................

Talking of which , one of my Xmas cards from the UK arrived 2 days ago.  Posted end of November by airmail.

Yes they do, frequently and fervently. But for some reason they never investigate themselves...
