I want to travel around Thailand.  I'm in Phuket now and it's unclear to me the cost for one checked bag (my golf bag} and one carry on.   I believe the length/size of the golf bag will trigger an extra charge.   I plan to keep the weight under the airline max for checked bag, looks like 20.  Do you know the likely charge or what to expect?  

Should I buy the ticket online with a regular checked bag and upgrade if necessary at the airline or ?

Do you have a car?, if so why not plan out a tour for yourself and hit the golf courses as you drive around the country.  I did that back in 2010, took a nice 6 week trip and played at 20 courses from Chiang Mai to Phuket.  Then I hung up my clubs after that.

Check the airline baggage policy.  Most have a "sports equipment" option this is where you want to pay for your golf bag.  It is considered odd shaped luggage all the domestic airlines I have taken charge anywhere from 500, 700, to 1000 b for golf clubs.
