No real rain this month. Just an occasional shower depending on where you are. https://www.windguru.cz/30397 A few deals to be found but the villas are busy. Villas that we manage are 90% full at the moment. It all depends on where you want to stay and your budget. Some new hotels opened this year - maybe doing deals? Kimpton Kitalay, Choengmon and Hyatt Regency, North Chaweng. Six Senses, Plai Laem has re-opened. Limited occupancy.

When I was there, the hotel prices had gone up alot, from a year before. Look around. There are likely some deals. A friend of mine who lives there, knows a number of hotel GM's. We also have a friend who works in a 5 star. All say the occupancy is no more than 30%, at this time, in most areas of Samui. I am sure there is some motivation to get the rooms booked.
sitta
Currently airfare from Sydney Samui (USM) very high with Qantas, so will try to come around mid July and hope to get some good hotel deal anywhere near Chaweng, Bophut or Lamai beach

Apparently this is because nobody is flying LHR to BKK for business anymore, and BA made most of their profits from business users. The knock on effect is it's more difficult / expensive to get to Thailand than it used to be. From the UK I believe Thai are the only airline offering direct flights to Thailand now. I've looked at going via Singapore using SIA / BA, but again prices are through the roof. Shame, because all this will slow Thailand's much needed recovery. Personally I can't wait much longer, and I reckon I'll bite the bullet for August time.

I don't think AirAsia resumed the KL to Surat Thani flight. In other news seems that Thailand pass is getting abolished in July, so Samui may get a bit of high season taste. But some venues in Chaweng like Hard Rock cafe and Palms are still not open, and the Ark Bar renovation seems to go slowly slowly...I doubt they'll be able to open with its former glory early August.
Popular Post khunPer
Update -- More and more action in Chaweng's soi Green Mango-nightlife... Henry Africa has returned and reopened the bar... And it had to come with free cannabis - i.e. kratom in Thai language - this place is called Copper Pipe... Seems like the former reggae- and rock music pub Chica Loca in soi Sound has begun growing herbs instead... And good old Sweet Soul Café has got a new business plan, if you eat enough cannabis brownies sold by the entrance, you might be able to fly into space in Space Fly Club... All the usual places are busy as usual, and The Green Mango Club even can manage a full house early when there is a concert like here with Pongsit "Pu" Kamphee... 3

spidermike007
When I was there recently it was still quiet, but it had picked up alot from the previous year. Alot of new places opening in Ban Rak. And Chaweng was slowly coming back to life. A minor amount of talent in the soi Raggae bars. Otherwise, nightlife is still on life support. Hope the improvement continues. 1

Popular Post khunPer
Chaweng nightlife update, as per 19th August around 00:30 AM... Ark Bar is still closed for re-construction - the old beachfront buildings has gone now - and the replacement Surf Up Bar is not busy as late as slightly after midnight, but Chaweng's northern part of the beach road is beginning to come alive; please note that I walked there late, too late for busy dinner and pub actions... The former and for long time closed Bar Solo has risen as a Phønix-bird and is now a pub for what seems to be loaded quality tourists, at least it's been named "Rich Club"... Also Soi Solo - which might now be renamed Soi Rich - has some lights and probably also life... A view facing south on the Beach Road... There are a number of places with live-music entertainment, a new one is Jimmy Woo's... A view facing north on the Beach Road... Soi Sound however, is unfortunately still quite dead, and the beer bars there seems to be in need for some life-support - I think they were already in need of that before the pandemic - but remember that I passed there late, so maybe also way too late for busy beer bar life... Soi Black in the back-area is as busy as usual with guests in both the pubs and the bars... Hard Rock Café's open area has become a sandbox for newly opened Socia\tel customers, that for whatever reason don't make it all the way down to the sandy beach... It seems like both Hard Rock Café and Hooters are planning to open soon, they are both hiring staff... While dreaming about Hooters Girls you don't need to dream about dream-girls anymore, as Dream Girls is back in business and so are the girls apparently also; I could see that there were at least some of them inside as they opened the curtain when I passed the exiting place...???? Soi Green Mango is the busy nightlife spot in Chaweng; I noticed that the newly opened Space Fly Club has already been slightly rebuilt and renamed to W Zone Club... DJ Admin entertaining the audience at The Green Mango Club... A crowded and busy The Green Mango Club around 1 AM... JettieG
Yowza! Green Mango is still rockin? I left Samui after about 10 yrs in Maenam in 2006. Did a google street search of the village and OMG, the only thing I recognize is Gai's Pharmacy. I pray that Gai is still there. I wonder if her daughter Nong Dan got her wish to be a vet. Looks way too busy for me now, but hope all expats are enjoying the life. Do the White Herons still fly to and from Ang Thong everyday? I think their nesting habitat was razed for villas in Big Buddha many years ago.

Popular Post JettieG
Thank you KhunPer for info and Maenam photo of Khun Gai & her Mother, who I remember well. Yes, that little bucket for making change, but you had to check your change! I have some photos of them somewhere. Lived in one of two small houses off the bike lane to the west. Gai ran over once asking my help to get rid of an Italian girl in the pharmacy clad only in a g-string. She is a great lady and occasionally got fed up and said she was coming for a gin & tonic with me at one of the local pubs.
Johnnyy
Spent the last couple of weeks at Lamai Beach. They have lost a few of the main bars like The Shamrock but are slowly getting replaced. Another music venue close by now. Plenty of restaurants open. Shame that it still seems be be plagued by dogs roaming the beach and streets. They seem non-plussed on the beach but not so on the streets at night. A few of them were very aggressive towards anything that went passed them last night. Rather unpleasant. Aside from that, still a fun place to visit.
