Samui 2022 - Whats happening !

Recommended Posts

I think Hooters and Hard Rock Cafe are going to open very soon, saw workers cleaning around Hooters recently. The Ark bar renovation is ongoing, the rumour is they'll open in 2-3 months.

In Chaweng most of the beachfront hotels and restaurants are now open, but the visitors are way way less than pre covid. IMO good time for a visit.

How is the night life after April ?

Did things re-open ?

Closing times ?

Any late night / after hours hide-aways etc ?

Things are opening up.

I cannot say exactly what as my nightlife stops at 22.00 from choice. (First check out tomorrow is 06.00!)

The other 3 questions

Yes.

Whenever.

Yes.

Would be interesting to know from others what the night life is.

In Bangkok it is of course not like it was before, yet there are still plenty of places to go out.

Night clubs etc are still closed of course.

I read that a few of the big places such as Green Mango are opening up this weekend...  is that an indication of back to normal, I wonder ?

Hoping that the Green Mango opening will be the catalyst for other places to open in the surrounding area. Although I guess it'll take time for enough tourists to come back to make those places viable. Fingers crossed we're getting there!

Also, will be be very interesting to know how the Green Mango will operate when it opens. How restrictive the Covid measures will be, and how much it will resemble a night club.

I look forward to hearing back from anyone who is lucky enough to go there on Friday.

P.S. Thanks KhunPer for starting this thread!

After April is difficult to predict, but in April closing time is 24:00 or midnight. Ark Bar announced the are open 14-24, Green Mango Club talks about 22-24; however, some things might rapidly change in amazing Thailand.

Late night after party might be Black Bamboo Pub, they normally seems to be above anybody else and is said to be open late for quite some time...🥳

A friend was there last night... apparently it was packed and they ran out of 🍺😮

Oh dear 🥴 and probably no 7/11s open nearby for them to re-stock

I don't suppose your friend gave you any other info, e.g. was the whole club open or just the area at the front, what was the mix of customers like - mostly locals, tourists etc., and were any other places open along SGM?

Only the area at the front is open, and from his judgement most were tourists. There were many bars open before the Green Mango opening, however no idea how many customers they are getting. The ladyboy cabaret opposite Combo has opened too.

Overall it seems the northern part of Chaweng is getting back in business.

Sounds positive. Green shoots of recovery, fingers crossed!

Chaweng's nightlife the night 9th to 10th April...

I specifically waited till the night after the re-opening of Green Mango Club to get an impression of how the nightlife is, when it's a bit more "normal" – and it is pretty much back to normal, but still different, with the same clubs, the same DJ's, the same (old) music, and the same (little older the two years ago) local ladies, plus a huge amount of both expats or regulars, and younger tourists.

Henry Africa and Dream Girls – yes, you need to dream a little longer about these girls - are still closed, and so are Hard Rock Café and Hooters, but who would travel 5,000 miles or more to amazing Thailand to visit that kind of places, apart from my friend, who wish to visit every Hard Rock Café around the World, but hasn't been here yet...🤔

Some impressions from my nightlife-walk between 11:30 pm and 1:15 am

The intersection between soi Black, soi Green Mango and soi Sound...

Soi Sound, where most bars are open and with good space inside (either most of the waitresses have been rented out, or not enough customers for beer bars, or lack og both)...

Beach Road seen from soi Sound facing north...

Ark Bar on the beach seems to be under re-construction – the hotel is still closed – so only a smaller temporary "Surf Up"-section is open and far from what it used to be, but the fire show is still there...

Beach Road by the entrance to soi Green Mango; it seems that all the usual katoys that normally are standing along the land-side of the Beach Road on the stretch between Ark Bar and Green Mango are back in work...

Hush was as usual quite packed inside...

Soi Green Mango views from the named club, Galaxy with the Russian show-girls is still closed, and so has the two small clubs Down Under and Sweet Sould Café been for long time, from before the Covid-pandemic...

wIMG20220410010152_soiGM.jpg.942b7341dbd47461abd025cbd09f388f.jpg

And also a packed Green Mango Club, where only the front stage is open...

The upper Green Mango Club-dance platform is full of happy tourists...

People are still heading for after party in soi Black, or just heading home that way...

However, Black Bamboo is packed as usual in the late hours, but all clubs and bars were open late...

Thanks very much for the tour. The nightlife is in much better health than I expected at this point in time. I feel optimistic for the first time in 2 years

Thank you Per, how about opening hours.

Here in Pattaya they enforce 11pm closing time.

Any sign of the live music bar on the corner of the beach road and Soi Green Mango opening? The place just before Dream Girls, I think it's called Palms.

Not opened yet. It was open last year during the darkest covid times, but now still closed.

The band Joker Parade is not back - or they play somewhere I don't know, or haven't been to - and Palms is still closed.

Chica Loca Bar in soi Sound is open, they used to have reggae bands, sometimes a rock band, but I didn't see any band when I passed.

If you wish live music either Old School Bar by the Lake, or Ma-Ha-Te in the road into Chaweng leading to the Central-roundabout, they both have live music and young Thai girls; the latter might not come there to meet farangs, but you never know...😉
