Not looking forward to read the death toll figures this year Songkran break after 2 years of relatively quiet Songkran because of the Covid...

It's the same this year as last year... no different.

" the previous 36 kms will be extended to 64 kms to ease traffic in the holidays."

In other words, the country's biggest parking lot, i.e. the highways of Thailand over Songkran, just has been made bigger - good on you folks!

"Mobilised".....how ironic, considering they'll be mostly sat on their ar$es eating doughnuts under canvas at check-points. Until a drunken lao-kao swigging Sombat crashes into them. of course!

I had this idea of forming convoys on the main roads say 2 cop cars in front of say 200 cars driving to the speed limit with a cop cars or M/C driving on the left mingled in any one overtaking is nicked. sound stupid but 'could' work.

I once had to collect a VIP from Swampy airport and escort them to Pattaya. We had a police escort which kept to the speed limit instead of showing off with lights and sirens and excessive speed. Quite disappointing, as it was around midnight and I was looking forward to bed.

80 kilometers on the highways is ridiculously slow and is a major reason for accidents.

High death rates are because most people drive motorcycles.

The majority of deaths are on small urban roads not the highways.

Basically the figures for deaths per 100k have stayed constant for years - over Song khan they are normally the same or slightly LESS than the rest of the year.

As yet any comprehensive or well analysed figures for the "Covid years" seem not to be forthcoming.
