snoop1130
Political activist Srisuwan Janya submitted a letter to Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) today (Monday), urging them to speed up the investigation of 18 members of the parliament, who he accuses of illegally possessing state land, including land under the land reform program. The move came after a high-profile verdict by the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders last week that stripped Palang Pracharath (PPRP)’s Pareena Kraikupt of her MP status and banned her from running for or holding office for life over the forest reserve encroachment of her poultry farm in Ratchaburi province. ThailandRyan
Sounds like Parena was the only one investigated as she must have been on the outs with her PPRP friends.

Here's a sample of the others, from a link in an article in yesterday's AN: https://www.thaienquirer.com/39336/pareena-calls-for-equal-application-of-law-after-80-mps-and-senators-investigated-for-public-land-encroachment/ The land prices of some of these alleged holdings might also be of interest. And all the guff about how the other cases each needs a sub committee to investigate it - stock in trade obstruction. Give the accused time to extricate themselves from the mire and clean up their activities, no doubt. 4

Really tells it all in my view "However, the secretary-general and spokesman of NACC Niwatchai Kasemmongkol said on Sunday that not all 50-60 MPs that the commission is investigating on will be prosecuted and the NACC is looking at them case by case." “This does not mean that all 50-60 cases were similar to Pareena’s case,” he told reporters. “So far, investigative subcommittees were set up for one to two cases,” he said. mtls2005
I suspect some will claim their friend gave them the land? Or loaned it to them. A responsible government with nothing to hide would immediately order a review of ALL land-holdings which have changed hands in the last 20 years, and those affected by subsequent re-classifying of land as "protected". Even if just an audit. And prosecutions would be evenly shared between yellow and red. But that won't happen, easier to use this scam to pick off political opponents. The powers that be should proceed cautiously, as, while they've granted themselves some degree of amnesty, they have become quite drunk with power. This may come to haunt them. And I'd immediately order public hearings on local land office shenanigans. None of this happens without local and provincial graft and corruption. 1

Give the accused time to extricate themselves from the mire and clean up their activities, no doubt. And for the local land departments etc to cover their tracks and get their ducks in a row after actually issuing the papers originally. It is quite difficult all this as in all these cases the local land offices, or local Phu Yais are clearly involved in the distribution of the land or the selling of it. Many of those local Phu Yai families will still be involved in politics now. Its also not helped when no doubt many members of the investigating authorities like the NACC, DSI, Police and their families also probably hold illegal land and are involved in corruption... one has to tread extremely carefully... Those in glass houses... No doubt Pareena and her mafia family reached some type of compromise on this. She will take the hit but no further charges will be pressed and her brother, sister, nephew, niece etc can step up to the plate.

Popular Post ikke1959
It is very clear that there should be a broom through all departments of the Government.. How is it possible that 50-60 or maybe more people can get land holdings if it is not correct... What is the difference with the mediashares?? If found guilty and not only 2 or3 or a few cases same lifetime ban. Besides there is a huge work to do for the election committee to invest properly all candidates who want to be elected... and a deep investigation instead of the usual envelopes.....Make the country bettter start with a reliable and competent Government and MP's 2

Popular Post mikebell
There's not one walk of Thai life that isn't riddled with corruption, starting with the Government down to the humblest cop on the street through the glittering gold temples and into the classrooms where the next generation learn their lessons for life.
