Since the pandemic, should we be more careful when paying upfront?

Several HCMC English centers have disappeared after months of Covid-related suspension, owing tuition fees to hundreds of parents, many of whom have approached the courts for justice.

For the past two months, Go Vap District resident Khiet has tried every way he could think of to meet investors of the Pixar foreign language center and request a refund of tuition fees that he had paid them.

However, no phone call went through and "all other methods of communication" failed. The center's three locations in Go Vap, Tan Phu and District 12 have closed down.

Beware!!!!

With the current pandemic hitting businesses and with the rising cost of living eating into our budgets every Dong counts.

OK, I think we can assume by paying deposits to main suppliers to have an internet connection or for the electricity turned on should be acceptable.

However, with borders now opening, many of us will be asked to pay deposits, even the full amount when booking hotels or through travel agents for flights.

It means we are caught between getting on a plane or booking a room at a resort or if we decide not to pay a deposit losing our room or seat.

Or when your friendly tailor asks for a deposit, where do you stand if they go bankrupt?
