hi all, my Thai girlfriend came to the U.K in December on a 6 month marriage visa we got married in february this year i am now trying to get a settlement visa for her as she is now back in Thailand, i am currently in the U.K working as a self employed commercial diver and i'm crashing at my parents so i have no utility bills!

what i would llike to know is how hard is it to get the settlement visa as surely they already have all the details from the previous visa application, ie bank statements and such.

is there anything that i need to do to make sure this visa goes through as 36,000 baht is alot to lose if it fails. and to be honest i am missing the other half (ahh)

any help appreciated

Joseph,

Was your wife's previous visa principally a visit visa which allowed her to marry, or was it a fiancée visa? I hope the former, as otherwise there was no need for her to leave the U.K. after the marriage.

Your wife does have to demonstrate that there will be sufficient accommodation for her in the UK, and a letter from your parents confirming their willingness to put you both up should be enough. They should also supply evidence that it is within their power to let you both stay with them. Other than that, you have to show that there is enough money for the purposes of taking care of the two of you without claiming certain benefits, and that you intend to live together permanently. By issuing the first visa, the embassy has accepted that you and your wife are indeed in a relationship, so I would submit evidence of your contact since she has returned to Thailand.

Scouse.
