While the rest of the world celebrates Easter, Holy Week or Songkran, here in Vietnam it is mainly business as usual this week.

Although last Sunday was Hungs Kings Temple festival, the next celebration will not be until Reunification Day on April 30th and Labor Day on May 1st.

Of course, many expats may take off a few days to celebrate Easter and will travel to visit relatives.

Meanwhile the travel system can normally cope, but as we all know back home, during national holidays the roads, rails, and airports tend to grind to a halt.

Flights become more expensive when demand rises and with higher fuel costs it is no longer cheap to jet off.

Many other people who cannot afford to buy plane tickets, will fill up the buses and trains too.

Also, expect the taxi drivers to charge higher fares as demand picks up, and they try to cope with higher fuel costs.

If you can stay away from busy holiday periods, you will find that most hotel rates should drop back to pandemic rates, saving you as much as 50%.

Enjoy.
