December 4, 20241 yr Very interesting numbers........ e.g. Denza with just one model, they hit a gold mine, harvesting in a very lucrative segment. It was in fact one of the very busy corners at the BYD booth. For me - to again look at the Tesla's on display, which by any account is a tech powerhouse, completely fell on their face with the stripped down IKEA style interiors compared to the Chinese competitors, so sad.

December 4, 20241 yr Popular Post So it looks like BYD is already number 2 in Thailand. A year ago they were tipped to pass Honda. Toyota better watch out, they have sleep-walked into this coming crisis through poor leadership. Fast forward 10 years, EV adoption is widespread, there are no perceived psychological barriers to entry and there is price parity or EV's are actually cheaper to buy than ICE (if you can still buy them). What do you think will happen to the second-hand market, you can buy an EV or you can buy an ICE with its complicated setup and running cost 4 times as much as an EV? We are fast reaching the point where you would be a mug to buy an ICE (personally, I think we were there a year ago).
December 5, 20241 yr New taxes for EVs Excise taxes will be lowered for HEV makers that make an additional investment of at least three billion baht from 2024 to 2027 and use local parts, Mr Narit said. Vehicles will also need to have advanced driver-assistance systems to qualify, he said. The EV Board also agreed to extend the production period of battery electric vehicles (BEV) under the so-called EV3 measure, which aims to propel EV industry growth. The measure comprises subsidies, reduced import duties for fully assembled cars and an excise tax cut. However, between 2022 and 2023, about 84,000 EVs were imported under the EV3 measure, which means 124,000 vehicles must be produced in 2025. But due to the current declining car sales, the EV Board decided to extend the production period to help the manufacturers, Mr Narit said. Some EV makers previously raised concerns that EVs produced locally under EV3.0 may have higher prices than EVs imported under EV3.5, putting them at a competitive disadvantage. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2914210/new-taxes-for-evs

My other house sale won't be thru by then and I haven't got my solar in yet. Around B1.4 mill for the fast one I think, that would be the Sealion 7 with the AWD and bigger battery platform? Do red ones go faster? 🙂

LR & Performance models are usually not LFP. BEVs perform well enough for me, not sure I need or would use any more hp/torque. Longer range, realistically, how often will you really need it, especially in TH. Do you really want to drive 4+ hours without a break ? May be an issue when selling, or if keeping very long term. More cycles with LFP (ignore MG reference. Edited December 5, 20241 yr by KhunLA

A registration is a completely done deal sale with vehicle blue book issued...the person is now driving the vehicle with red tags.

December 5, 20241 yr An interesting perspective for those thinking about buying an EV in Thailand.......
December 5, 20241 yr Popular Post 29 minutes ago, transam said: An interesting perspective for those thinking about buying an EV in Thailand....... First 2 statements ... ... 'they are inconvenient for most drivers" .. no they aren't ... "they are more expensive" ... no they aren't, they are better, and that raises the cost a bit. Returned in less maintenance & operating cost 10 fold. Tariffs & taxes make them expensive, since the better ones are usually imported. Or the manufacturer has to import the batteries, again, more expensive due to tariffs & taxes, besides simply not making themselves. 2 misconceptions was enough. Mandates are controlled (timing of) by the govt, who seem to be controlled by fossil fuel industry, and dragging their feet, upgrading the grid & alternative energy sources. Hoping they'll make it impossible for the grid to handle all the EVs, thus need to push the mandates back as they profit selling their crap fuel. Literally harming people with low level air pollutions, especially diesel. Sad part, nothing hidden about it, and the brain dead populous just cower & comply, because they're too F'g stupid & scared to speak up. M.P. Mills, co founder of Montrose Lane Inv. Resent investment ... "Ambyint General Information Description Developer of an artificial intelligence-powered optimization software designed to help the oil and gas industry" I couldn't make this sh!t up, so you listen to the guy that profits from oil & gas, and I'll invest in BEVs & Solar, and not listen to my wallet crying, when we drive past the petrol station or pay the PEA bill Edited December 5, 20241 yr by KhunLA

Mark Mills is just spreading FUD and he contradicts himself continuously. He say's EV's cost the manufacturer a $50k loss per car and that's after a federal credit. But Tesla's sell well and they don't lose money. He says EV;s are complicated, they're not, there's a a dozen modules only in an EV, the newer BYD's have 2 major components a 12 in 1 drive system and a battery. His main issue is implied but unspoken, and that is that China can do it economically and America can't.

Oh my gosh, just after the first few minutes where this guy says EVs are a lot more expensive, EVs are for wealthier people, inconvenient for most to drive, making the EV construction sound like it's as complicated as building a spaceship, etc., it told me this guy is just another anti-EVer surely getting some backdoor money from legacy US car manufacturers and the fossil fuel industry. I then continued to scan thru the video where he continued his anti-EV propaganda...excuse me, I mean his perspective. But his perspective is full of intentional misinformation. Now I will admit "in the U.S." EVs are pricey predominately due to customers being a captive audience to legacy car manufacturers (i.e., the GMs, the Fords, etc) who can't make EVs as cheap or offer a wide variety of EV models as Chinese manufacturers do. And it seems they can't make as good of an EV (excluding Tesla) because they have dragged their feet in developing their own EV technology. But as low cost and quality EVs continue to be sold in huge numbers outside the U.S., many in U.S. population will eventually wonder why can't they buy one of those low cost and quality EVs which is replacing legacy ICEV just like the ICEV replaced horses & buggies. Transition to a new technology can be painful to many.....just like how online stores (i.e, Lazada, Shoppee, Amazon, etc) have put a lot of Mom & Pop brick-and-mortar stores out of business because Mom & Pop didn't (or couldn't) adapt new sales technology. But with each Mom & Pop store that went out of business an equal or more number of online stores came into existence to create jobs, tax revenue, etc. Yeap, transition from old to new can indeed be painful to include lots of resistance and propaganda during the transition.

I see what you are saying, look at Seal, as soon as it gets close to Seal 2025 the 23/24 models prices plummet, same could happen with Sealion 7. I feel like we have gotten past availability and are now into disposability !! It’s amazing how fast the EV invasion is moving at now .
December 5, 20241 yr Just on your post below KhunLA, it seems that the pictures of every crashed Tesla I’ve seen, the vehicle is unrecognizable such is the damage. As I think I’ve mentioned I recently went for a spin with my son in his Tesla in Brizvegas, Australia and the acceleration was breathtaking but how many drivers have the skill to handle that amount of power ? Its fine for ev’s to have and promote such power but should they ? 7 hours ago, KhunLA said: BEVs perform well enough for me, not sure I need or would use any more hp/torque.
