Thai Opposition Pheu Thai Party urges government to revoke Emergency Decree after ‘Test&Go’ scheme to build tourist confidence

Bangkok – The Thai government opposition Pheu Thai Party urged the Thailand government to revoke the emergency decree after canceling the ‘Test&Go’ scheme as it did not potentially help curb the spread of Covid-19 but was rather imposed for political purposes, according to their statement.

 

Jakkaphon Tangsutthitham, Pheu Thai MP for Chiang Mai and Deputy Secretary-General for the party’s economic working group, said that the Prime Minister’s announcement to cancel RT-PCR testing for international arrivals in May was a good thing. They also suggested that the government should revoke all complicated measures for tourists, including the ‘land entry fee’ in further steps.

Moreover, the party also urged Prayut’s government to cancel the Emergency Decree when  ‘Test&Go’ was officially canceled and the situation had returned to normal. According to their statement, the decree did not help prevent the spread of the coronavirus but the government rather imposed it to limit anti-government activities.

It is not only scrapping all that nonsense; Thailand is challenged to rebuild its entire tourism industry, be it local or international tourism. And the latter will be the most rewarding - financially speaking - but also the most difficult with a serious uphill battle problem. 

Lets wait and see; I - for one - do no longer believe in Santa Claus. Thailand had it all, a mono-destination, and excellent product at competitive pricing, lovely people - a guaranteed success. That was 30+ years ago. Today, Thailand has fierce competition in all categories, high pricing and more often than not rude, impolite, careless, selfish, exclusively money-driven people who, compared to their parents, are not even willing to work anymore.

This is an excellent issue for the opposition to raise.

 

There really is no reason to extend the current COVID Emergency Decree again, currently in effect through 31 May 2022. Normally they would extend it automagically - as they have done in the South ~ 66 times since 2005 - ~ Mid-May, for the period 1 Jun - 31 July.

 

Now the regime is boxed in on this issue a bit.

There is absolutely no reason for the emergency decree to be in place at this time, other than an extreme thirst for power. It should be removed. These days, it appears the opposition are the only adults in the room. Hope they can figure out a way to wrestle back power from the incompetents.
