Said they were losers who lived through their past bloc era, and thought being in control of lots of countries was more desirable than having a decent lifestyle and strong economy.

 

Not sure such people can be de-programmed.  OTOH, meeting him did remind me not to be instantly judgmental when I run across a russian. Some---I'll take his 30%---are decent people.

I agree, having worked on scientific exchange projects in Russia myself I always believed that the vast majority were great people and wanted to be friends with the West - but not now - now you can divide people into 2 categories, idiots and non-idiots - the idiots are people whipped up by whatever nationalist/populist leader wants them to do - regardless of how crazy it is - doesn't matter whether it is in Russia, US, UK, Germany or Thailand - the idiots are coming more and more out of the woodwork and we never knew there were so many of them

I really hope sanctions and their economy issues stop them coming..... having their people wander Asia seeking the sun while their military kill indiscriminately is hard to accept.

I know a russian that was sitting on a barstool in the top dog (an american hot dog joint).

 

I walked in and asked for a german, a polsky, and a cop in frankfurt. The russian farted and laughed. I was served promptly and some indian guy pooped near the door.
