So I bought a nice shrine for my new house. It's 50cm wide and for indoor use. Now my gf says she wants a FK altar outside a house. I said no. So to my q. Is it a must to have both a shrine inside and a FK altar outside the house

They are two different things.

One inside is shrine for ancestors.

The little temple one outside is for the spirits.

Ask your gf to explain to you. If she wants them she should buy them herself if it's her personal beliefs.

Also...you will not like it when the spirit house is installed....then the village spirit witch doctor type guy will come and have some ceremony and burry some things in the ground where he says the spirit house is to go. He has to be paid for his service of course...and it will probably be all going on at some ungodly hour in the morning.

Enjoy your Thai relationship.

Ty for clarifying

Is it such a big deal to pay for an outdoor shrine? It won't cost very much, so in my opinion it would be a good "investment" if it keeps your GF happy.

The one my GF put in the garden can be seen on Google Earth.....true!

But my inside shrine is a little bit sad today.

Ok. So I settled with a small spirit house. 50cm width. And behold. She forgot to tell me that the monks already marked the spot for it 1 year ago. I'm lucky it's on the othe end of house where her old parents will stay

Should be looking forward to the black magic types coming around to advise.

Provincially dependent, of course - as it varies from each locale.

Never can be too safe.

Do you want a happy gf? What are you willing to pay for her and your happiness?

Just do it!

Shut that nonsense down right now.  And get rid of the parents.

You seem to have a lot of experience in Thailand - or maybe not?
